Fast back model, i remember back in the 1970,s someone i knew bought a brand new skoda, while looking around it i noticed you could see the road through the gap between the sill and bottom of the door.. Excellent quality control.

They were czechoslovakian made I believe during the eastern bloc / soviet era then got bought by VW when it all dissolved. Skoda were really into heavy engineering from the early parts of the 20th century - cars were a sort of sideline.

Hi All

Hope not boring but :-

No pictures, but a partial list of what I’ve owned over 48 years !!!. ( in order )

I really wish I still owned most of them 😢😢😢.

62 Anglia ( was going to be a Twin Cam but never got completed 🤬) 63 Daimler V8 - 65 Cortina GT 1640 pre cross flow - 63 Thunderbird Landau 390 V8, Aubergine with White Leather - 61 Mini Traveller with full race 1340, 649 Cam, 45 Weber etc - 65 Buick Riviera 425 Wildcat engine with twin 4 barrel Holleys - 68 Pontiac GTO. Lots of other less interesting stuff.

1975 - 1980 :-

2 x XJC 4.2, fabulous cars. 70 Escort Estate 1760 Crossflow, self built, work van ! - THE BIG ONE, 65 Lotus Cortina, bought in 75 for £200, yep £200 - in 77 I spent 2k on engineering and parts alone and built engine myself, took it from 105bhp to 172bhp Dyno proved !, Rocket box etc etc etc, never got beat in this, sold her in late 79 for £700 🤡, bloke had it 2 weeks and wrote it off and smashed engine, apple pie. My Favourite Car Ever.

78 brand new RS 2000 in Amber, bought this for Wife to make up for above !!.

1980 - 1984 :-

Emigrated to Canada :- 76 Mk 1 Golf Gti - 77 Thunderbird ( like a boat ) 72 Riviera Boatail , 72 Cuda 340 6 pack - big cam - ported etc - lowered and stiffened, great car and quick, new in 1981 Yamaha RD 350 LC took this from 47bhp to 72bhp and very nearly killed myself on it, no more Bikes.

Back Home 1984 to Now :-

Hillman Hunter estate with 1725 Holbay, work van. 85 Rover Vitesse with 3.9 Supercharged Rover V8, nippy, 96 Alfa GTV. Pre Lit Westfield 1700 crossflow. Pre Lit Westfield crossflow 1760 A8 cam 45s about 170 bhp, mental. Caterham Supersprint, lovely thing. 85 M635CSI Manual. 2000 TVR Tuscan S, fantastic, 2nd favourite ever. In 2005 I went with money in my pocket to buy a Lotus Carlton for 12k yes 12k, it had a bad misfire and I bottled it, what a tinker lol 🙈🙈. 2008 world and life collapses had to sell all I had left of above.

2004 :- 97 SL 320, still have it, 2014 09 XJ TDVI still have it. 2019 68 Alpine in restoration now, probably go 289 V8 route !. looking now for Anglia to scratch itch from 1973 !!.

Probably loads I have forgotten.

Still not had these 2 and intend to :- 928 GTS, Elan +2s,

Hope I haven’t bored you to death 🤓.

Regards

John

Just now, John Murphy said:

Blimey, a keeper, what do you have ?.

I kept my Mk2 and my Twincam Escorts. Had them for 35 and 30 years. Sold my Mini I dabbled with in that time. I had two beaters prior to those 35 years during my provisional licence years bringing my all round total to 5. (Six if you count a car I loaned money for that I drove around for a time till I sold it to recoup my money)

Wow some of you have owned gazillions of cars. I tend to buy one and keep it for a while. Can’t remember the years but here’s my list

82 MG Metro

84 MG Metro

90 Sierra Sapphire 1.8 LX (Boring car)

84 Mini 25

94 Mini Cooper (still owned)

2000 Fiat Punto HGT

2004 VW Polo tdi

1980 MK2 Escort 1.1L (still owned)

2006 Toyota Celica GT

2010 Holden Captiva LX

I know I kept the Punto for 8 years and the Polo for about 5. Mini Cooper i’ve had about 17 years and Escort about 5 now.

Sold the Celica after about 18 months when we came out to Australia. The Holden is the wife’s for her to get to work and for us to get around. Feels strange not having a car of my own for the first time in about 30 years.
