@Vista Great work getting the site back and running so soon. I was panicking that it may be the end of the site so was pretty worried. I know its alot of work but thanks so much for not giving up on it! Well done.

I'm not sure how long we've got, essentially our current server platform's position is that we're taking up too much space (despite it being sold as unlimited SSD storage ).

 

Hence they shut us down last night when I declined to delete our upload folder contents (that would mean all the photos uploaded here would disappear, making the forum largely pointless). 

Looking at options now so all I have done for the moment is buy us some time to resolve it.

How can the say its unlimited them demand you delete all the photo folders? The forum really isnt that large compared to most surely?

The uploads folder is now 46Gb

46Gb? The memory card in my pocket camera is bigger than that! Thats nothing at all I thought we would be in the terabytes or something.

Contravened their policy on using their server as a bulk storage facility for archives. I am in the process of arguing this out with them as that isn't how we use it.

a club that i run on FB, we recently started a web page purely for info purposes for non FB users, nothing that the members can actually use, just something thats there for information, whilst at the moment, what we have is free, looking at what we get and what we will need in the future, just for that alone is going to start costing, so can imagine, the size of what you have here, is certainly going to start costing a lot more, probably as contracts come to an end, especially as you have an e commerce side to it as well.

the odd thing is, that, having been involved in the web site set up (i know fook all about them even now) web size pictures etc, seem to be small compared to things like the camera on your phone

but from that set up experience, and its ongoing growth, i hate to say it, but i still say your going to need to push the cult more to pay for it, nothing in life is free

Blimey. I’m not a tech guy at all but this sounds worrying. I’m with Ray regarding the pay comment. What’s bloody 12 quid a year for all this knowledge and sharing.

At the moment they are pointing me to their small print terms and conditions......I am pointing back at the glossy advertising that says "unlimited Solid State Drive Storage" and accusing them of breach of contract.
