Steve 787
Hi all, my first post, new to the website. I have had two Ford escort RS 2000 both mk 2’s in the last 3 years. Droop snoop and flat front. Both sold recently i found it quite easy to gauge a price for these, when I bought and when I sold 30k average £35k good and £40k very good etc. But I find it very difficult to price up a mk 1 RS 2000 because there are hardly any for sale. I know there will be a big difference in prices depending on how good the car is and how much paperwork there is but for a quite good mk 1 RS2000 (I am looking for one used so showing some paintwork scars etc. and not a garage queen) what is the ballpark cost for one? Are they more expensive than mk 2 due to being more rare?
Vista
Yes they are (more expensive) I would say £45 - £50k for a very good one. Be interesting to watch this auction next month https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1638068

Steve 787
Pleased to say I have found one and bought one and although it is in very good condition I have decided to ask a friend to restore it with a full bare metal respray

Steve 787
Hi it’s a 1974 Ford Escort mk 1 RS 2000 which will not be for the purists because it has been modified by the previous owner to his taste, flared arches, bucket seats, roll cage and some rally switches etc. Still a lot on it as an RS though, white with blue decals, RS alloys, 2 litre original engine and AVO vin plate etc. In my opinion the previous owner has done an amazing job and has rebuilt himself from a rotting shell, he’s the best at total restorations IMO. With having the modifications I have decided to continue with what’s been done already and make it a tribute car aiming for it to be the same as the Ford in Fast and Furious 6, including a bare metal respray to blue with white decals. Photos of now and then the plan.

Glad you found one you like And don't worry, most of us here would fail to get approval from the purists, but it's each to their own I say!

Rally Pack 2000
A guy was asking 84K Sterling for an RS1600 but just after that Mk1 RS2000 kind of wiped the floor with it

Miniliteman
People who pay this kind of money look at it as an investment. And they are afraid to harm that investment so don't drive it (as it should). I look at my car (Mk2 RS BDA) as a "toy" , something to enjoy have fun with. Don't mind if it gets dirty, haven't washed it in years. Been out in it this afternoon, driving in the lanes. Getting out of the car with the cage and bucket seats with a bad back is getting an issue though ... 1

Back issues have hampered me a lot of late, I originally had the plan of a stripped and caged street racer style car. Now comfort is key haha. But yeah these cars are to be enjoyed, although possibly not when the gritters come out up my way 😂

Trouble is @Minilitemanthis has smashed the ceiling price and the buyer won't get it back drive it or not. The upside for us all is prices and values will go up, the downside is that the Ford Tax on parts will do to 🤔. Is it a 👍 or 👎?

Someone here in Australia from my old escort gang days saw that Mk1 Rs2000 price so it must have made the news or something and texted me because I kept both of my cars and he said I must be sitting on a gold mine. I replied its a tapped out oxide mine that's now just a bottomless pit! LOL

Getting out of the car with the cage and bucket seats with a bad back is getting an issue though ... The guy who bought it made the comments below in response to some of the stuff posted about it in a Facebook group. Fair play to him I say, it was his money and if that's what he wants to spend it on, it is now his car. "I thought I should share my story, providing some context to help better understand why I've recently purchased what, to me, is an iconic car—a dream from my teenage years. I've been working since I was 12 years old, delivering papers, milk, and picking potatoes until I finished high school. With 50 years of consistently putting in an average of 12 hours a day, six days a week, and having only taken 73 sick days in all that time, on hindsight I worked too much and missed out on some of the most important wonders of life, so I found myself in my sixties with one wish and one dream: to experience this car and transport myself back to those teenage years. Saving diligently all these years has allowed me to reach and check off that dream. I consider myself incredibly fortunate. On a final note, I don't want to keep it locked away in a private collection where no one will ever see it. Instead, I aim to drive it and take it, whenever possible, to shows and events. After all, we can save and save, but we can't take it with us. I apologise if I've upset anyone; that was not my intention. What is the cost of life, experience, or dreams?"
Rally Pack 2000
Nostalgia is a powerful motivation especially as you get older and the tech world seems to be so dehumanizing and consuming the world with poor quality goods and service. I have even bought cereal box toys cause they reminded me of my youth. Truth is that he wont loose money from it devaluing or anything. I am thankful the lack of enthusiasm for change made me hang onto my cars although I did have a three month affair with a Mini Clubman before resurrecting RP2000 from the rust jaws of death.
