damn, must type faster!

Did I read somewhere that you can bore them out and use a fiat crank to get 2+ litres?

2.0 litre Crossflow.....that would be interesting :ykt:

they are a thick wall block that can be bored out to 1860cc on standard crank.

you can get the odd 711m that will do it but it's not advisable. most standard 711m will bore to effective 1700 without problems but after that, walls get very thin and only an odd one due to the casting will go further.

2000cc can only be got with longer throw crank.

I'm an old ford fan but the xflow and pinto are not the best way to go for power IMO. they suit an original RS or if you have bits around to make a screamer, but the 2000cc 16v modern engines of today make a better job of it for less money.

I agree

cc's have always been the xflow achillies heel. I spent a fortune on one over many years and whilst it was great fun I wish I put money into something else. I researched long an hard how to get the most and whilst my memory of 1860 vs 1824cc was a little off you would be better served with a duratec or zetec.

trouble is I don't think you are allowed these if your racing historic's

Is their a straight forward way of identifying the AX block?

I have a SA Escort 1600 Sport and was intrigued as to whether it had one fitted.

My 1980 SA Escort Sport has an AX thick wall block, but its not marked AX ,Its marked 831C 6015R34 with out the AX cast into it.

Apparently some  831C blocks don't have AX cast into them as well .

Exactly as he said.

I had an AX block in my SA Escort. Got it bored to 87mm.

The 1700 Caterham 7's had AX blocks I believe.

Sold the car now though.

I now run a Cosworth N/A long throw crank and bored and sleeved to 94mm.

Goes like stink.
