xpackken Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 why dont we have a live chat room on osf . or do we . if not i think we should anyone else . _________________ bush stimulus package
Wessie Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 i think admin decided that we should use MSN if we want to have a chat
Gareth Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Makes sense IMO, saves server space, and it's only a click away
xpackken Posted May 31, 2007 Author Report Posted May 31, 2007 i dont have that and i reckon people would use it more if it was just available on the index page . _________________ Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Forum
Gareth Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 i dont have that and i reckon people would use it more if it was just available on the index page . Fair point dude It would make sense for people without MSN to get to know others
xpackken Posted May 31, 2007 Author Report Posted May 31, 2007 if you agree dudes dont forget to cast a vote . _________________ Ativan Rehab Forum
Admin Vista Posted May 31, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 31, 2007 I think the rest of the forum would suffer for it. For instance if everyone is taken up with live chat, who's going to be posting new threads or answering questions on the existing ones? Sorry my vote is a no
Jay_harrier Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 I can see both sides, you'd get banter & stupidity in the rooms but opinions & questions where you want a general consensus over a few days would still be here. I doubt I'd use it after the novelty wore off though.
over_head_cam Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Just one question. Who would moderate it?
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 If we decide to have a chat room, do you have any suggestions on which chat 'script' to use, which we can integrate into the PHPBB forum? Don't forget it needs to be cross platform because I (and others) use a Mac. Needs to be reliable too. Yes I'm the site techy, but in my experience, all the chat scripts I've tried using on websites were shite and caused the site to hang and/or users pcs to hang. People were getting thrown out of the rooms for no reason and couldn't get back in. As my old boss used to say 'Rocket.....moon'. ie: Easy to say. Not so easy to implement.
BaileyMex Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 For those who remember when we DID have a live chat part to the site, it was a bit pants, no one bothered using it.
Posse Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Makes sense IMO, saves server space, and it's only a click away Spot on
Rick Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 i dont see the point myself. its nice to look back on posts for reference too
xpackken Posted May 31, 2007 Author Report Posted May 31, 2007 i must say i feel everyone has good valid points . and i think this could take a while . at what point does someone make a decision and who has the power to do so . _________________ ultra sonja plants

Even if everyone votes a resounding 'yes' it still might not be technically possible with the software available. It needs to be free, easy to install, compatible with the server config, won't break the existing site, reliable & works for everyone. Kinda like MSN really.

Kinda like MSN really. if it gets a lot of use its gonna cost just the same as a popular forum. just stick every1's msn addys up and stick em in one chatroom. i believe kieran tried that and it failed miserably

Once it's purchased then it won't cost any more.
Fiesta Steve Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 For those who remember when we DID have a live chat part to the site, it was a bit pants, no one bothered using it. Yes I remember, and no one used it So 'no' vote from me.

johnny_h Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 No, too many conflicting attitudes. It will end in tears. At least with a forum you can think before you post something and then delete it if your gob is running away. I'd never get anything done either
Johnson Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 id rather type stuff it what a forum is all about
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 id rather type stuff it what a forum is all about you can type stuff in chat rooms too. It works better when you do
