Not to ditract from the OSFDC. But you know if this could be done properly and fairly it would be an excellent yearly event, and like the OSFDC everyone can be included from the lowest cc to the road warriors, and could quite easily be ran along side the OSFDC. It is going to take ages to sift through but could prove to be so worth it. Then as a club we could challenge other clubs our fastest against theres, it could be one of the biggest championships going if taken that far.

Fast Car Mag used to organise a Pod challenge which had loads of sensible classes which is now USC.

Classes like....

1400-1600 N/A FWD

1400-1600 N/A RWD

etc

All slicks cars went in class X, Maybe these days cars with no exhausts or slicks would be in class X ie not road worthy. -Some people could sign on in two classes.

Turbos, S chargers and N20 were in a seperate class.

Talking with regards to "crazy" Brighton Speed Trials class reg's, I think "Kit" cars shouldn't run with full bodied saloons cos that's mad!!

The thing is though - you need loads of various cars to turn up, to have loads of classes.

we need an all round challenge with points awarded for most street able fastest et 0 to 60 top speed and handling they do this in the american car mags once a year and its always the best feature by a country mile you get a class winner and an overall winner and it offers a level playing field for those who have not got an out and out race car this really would be a top feature

We don't need any sort of challenge do we? This isn't mycockisbiggerthanyours.co.uk it's oldskoolford. Why is it that people have to prove what their cars can do? It would seem to me that there must be something missing elswhere :?

Whats the quickest car here on the strip?

Turbo and N/A

What about race cars?

Fastest lap times round circuits etc?

What sort of spec you running on your car?

How much BHP does your car have?

Just curious!!!

Ermmm is it me ... or is there just a simple question above with just a simple answer...

No rules... no "its got to be MOT'd" or run "street tyres" .. just a simple question ..

and the answers simple too... with proof ...

1/4 = 60ftman

track Andy Pipe (55.4 @Brands Hatch )

(andys details ... 1598cc Ford X-flow HT Racing 171.4 bhp @8050 / 117.4 @ 6405 weight is 870kgs W/O/D (standard mk1 is 917kg) tyres fr 7" r 8" . chassis .. 5 link rear, McPhereson strut front GAZ dampers coil-overs all round .. gearbox 4 speed S/C C/R

and as for contradictions ... somewhere back amongst the drivel Gaz commented on 2 cars that where the daddies round a track ... both which he would call Trailer Queens later on ... 1 being Mick and the other being Matt .. as more often than not those cars arrive on trailers ..

As for the "clique" i cant be in it either P.I.G as i have a laugh with Gaz in teh fresh air .. :D ,

So just to re-cap umpteen pages ...

Fastest OSF up the 1/4 and around the track .. 60ftman for 1/4 and Andy Pipe for the track ... if you want to beat them.. shed some weight , fit an eight , some slicks etc ... no one in competitive sports de-tunes THEIR car to slow it down to match the slowest car on track ... its a competition .. the aim to be the fastest ..

If we went along with the " rules " to comply with " The Gazicstan Drag Race Championship " someone in that championship could say " i have a standard 1100L car, so all you lot need to fit Tinilights and 1100cc x-flows ... ohh and a tartan blanket on the parcel shelf too "

Gaz mentioned a " clique " .. well the biggest clique is the " comfy road cars with 175/50/13's " ... or the one that says .. i cant catch you so de-tune your car ...... the stripped out race cars never say " your cars cheating because its got trim, or 16valves or an ECU .. they just say ."thats a cracking car mate" .. i have, i've said it many times about Gaz's car..its stunning in a standard sorta way .. its not my cup of tea, i cant get excited about the supension as its standard.. the bodyshell ..its standard, yes its a nice car and its what GAZ WANTS from a car .. its a good car, and a credit to him, its a car people can aspire to.. as its one of the best cars out there.

They dont call people who dont trailer their cars " masochists " for driving a bumpy, no cd player, no air con , no comfort fast road car OSF that does speed hump to speed hump quicker than mateys over there ...

They dont slate off road cars drivers clothing .... like someone does calling a flameproof suit a " baby grow " or " romper suit" ..

They dont slate the road cars gleaming paint like some slate the bruised paint on a racecar with " hand painted " .. " roller brushed bangers" ..

Infact, there is only one type of person who slates other peoples choice of wheels, or what THEY do with THEIR cars , or slates of someone for having a balanced opinion ... thats just it really.. its opinions, and like arseholes everyone has one ..

Anyway as we know.. this post will get slated ... i personally think its a balanced view of the thread, but some may take offence at my views, like some do with Gazes .. so i'll stop with the answer to Sambo's question again

Fastest 1/4 ..60ftman

faster round brands .. Andy Pipe ..

until someone gets a quicker time... gentlemen, good luck in '08

Nothing wrong with bit of banter, or healthy competition is there? There's no progress without competition :ykt: (well there is, but usually competition motivates people, space race, F1 to name but 2!)

And you're wrong about the man-hood - it's not missing completely!!

Retro!!

You spoil sport!!

You think this should have been answered in 1 post not 34 pages!!

This

"1/4 = 60ftman

track Andy Pipe (55.4 @Brands Hatch )"

Is over simplifying things!! :mrgreen::thumbsup::lol:

Although TBH it's on the money!

:lol::lol::lol:

and you cant enter that competition ... your cheating..

you have high blood pressure which means ....

extra pump up pressure ..

tut tut

acctually i would love to see Gaz's rules on this one :lol:

blood presure must be taken.. anyone with high presure must take pills .. low pressure dont matter though as you cant beat his comfy middle of the road pressure .. anyone with a bigger one has to fit a restrictor strap .. before watching 5 minutes of Gazes car going down the strip ..

:o:o:o

anyone with high presure must take pills ..

Make sure these are pills and not capsules as capsules would be considered 'light-weight' with all that plastic bodywork........

Cor blimey thats a long thread to answer a simple question!

My mate has a 1960's fastback mustang with a 460 big block in it that went through the timing lights at the pod at 180mph and was still picking up (its not set up for quarter mileing the gearing is to high) he reckons it might see 200mph given the room.

Thats pretty fast.

 we all want to get performance from our oldskoolfords and not polishing tips

Well retromotorsports lost it as usual  . I call race cars that can't be driven on streets trailer queens . Cars that can go on streets but choose to go on trailers are also trailer queens but not as bad as the first lot !!!!!!! :ykt::wink:

TOTB but for OSF's would get a big  from me!

Street legal tyres, exhausts and T+T and NO GAS, surely RF or CF could do this?

or MAYBE gaz people that trailer their cars to tracks are doing so incase something breaks because as you wouldnt know considering your car has never been down the strip or round a track things can break so it is nice to know you can still get home if the worst should happen.

i would say the only ones that can be classed as "trailer queens" ar ethe cars that are so unbeleivably mint thier owners dont drive them

concours is not my cup of tea because i just dont have the patience or the money but that doesnt mean i dont enjoy looking at them and seeing these cars as they were when they left the factory

Yes there's nothing wrong with trailering your car to a race meet/car show etc mate  . Just don't start crying if you get called a trailer queen once you've got there !!!!!!!!:lol::lol:

I trailer mine to the tracks for two reasons:

1. In case something breaks.

2. It's more economical to tow it than it is to drive it.

I don't mind being called a trailer queen. Car is insured, T&T'd so I can (and do) use it on the road, it's just at 4 gallons to the mile it's a little....erm....expensive to drive to the drag strips of the UK.
