Pye Man Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Who do you trust to do MOTs etc? When I had my escort (Black one), I took it ti be MOTd and left it there, for the 2hrs or so. During this time it was slagged off (called the rust wagon etc.), probably meaning it had second rate work and a lad who I know who had a history of crashing cars without even having a driving licence (one being his dads ) said he took it for a drive. I nearly killed him. It was like someone sleeping wif your misses Needless to say the car never went there again. So who do you trust to do MOTs or similar?
lee_capri Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 that's bad,id punched his f**king light's out tom,and the bloke incharge
Pye Man Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Posted February 4, 2008 Aye, bad crack. Fookin tits. Was a few year ago now, just got me thinking
Mr Sam Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 i used one guy heard he had a car off a customer for a week, one day shes waiting for a bus and her car drives past with a total bunch of strangers in it, he had lent it to someone else
Badgerman85 Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 my car went for an MOT and when it came back my £250 burton power electronic distributor was broken, the clips were all stretched and the cap now wobbles around, when u crank it it jumps about 1.5cm from side to side........hence why my King car no longer starts, got some new clips now so guess i got a fun weekend of trying to get to my dizzy, which is convieniently hidden underneath a pair of 40's! cant believe it, why the hell would they mess with my dizzy???
Admin Mk2Jo Posted February 4, 2008 Admin Report Posted February 4, 2008 Colin Ashton of Ashton Mobile MOT's all 3 of my cars
antz Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 i sometimes take it to HERITAGE CAR COMPANY in Malton (n.yorks) who deals with jaguar classic cars and he takes it to his local MOT guy OR i take it to Hackness garage in the middle of no-where who does a thorough job and even lets you watch the whole thing from about 3foot away
Stu_B Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 I've been getting MOT's done in the same place since I had my first car, my whole family does! It used to be the local garage about a mile from our house but we since moved & it's now at least 15 miles for all of us.... but we still all use him. He's strict but I think thats a good thing... I want my car to be safe
Copey Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 a mate of my dads does my MOT, basically, its gets a pass as long as he can do the work that needs doin on it to pass it
Rick Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 i dont trust 99% of them i hate MOT stations theyre all out to rob old people and women i dont blame people that dont bother with them. my escort will be done by one of my dads mates though as he begged to let him do it for us/ i hope its FOC
FredTransit Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 For all the MOTs I take in myself, I go to Garrett Motors in Wembley, they do Class7 and Class4 so we take all the vans and cars there we do ourselves. It's while you wait and unless the MOT has expired I never book. They are fair and never fail on small stuff like a bulb out. I don't want to drive a death trap so wouldn't want a car or van to pass if it's not safe.
flyingbanana Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 ive been going to the same place for years, they love the escorts and old cars...they even own 2 race cars one has a pinto in it
sab6024 Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 My brother does all the work on my cars. Before he became an MOT Tester I would always watch the tests carried out on the cars, now I just leave it all to him
Duke3s Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Before i got mine rebuilt i used to take it to Superwest (Urmston, Manchester) - top blokes. But Ric Wood built my engine so it goes to him at Whitegate garages in Stockport. He put it together so i trust him and i know that he will do a good job and not let some snotty nose git go tear arseing round in it on his dinner! If i took it somewhere and they had been letting any Tom, Dick or Harry have a go i would have introduced the guy in charge to my right fist - complete piss take, abusing your car. Not on.
shaun1.6ghia Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 lee, who do you take yours too? im getting some ideas localy an jus wondered where you'd recomend. thats bad news guys, i think i'll wait outside an follow my car jus to check... i can't believe people would disrespect other peoples property like that.
bomber1 Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 ive used a local garge keith deering for ages. they do class 4 and 7 so all our vans go down there and my cars. u turn up and wait ur turn. they dont do repairs just mots. there always firm but fair id like to know the car is right
mk1escortmad Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 when i worked in a 'back street garage' for 3 yrs as a apprentice while getting my qualifications, i was shocked at our boss who was also the mot tester, if we had a quiet day he would make fails up on elderely peoples cars, thankfully he has now retired, but i now take my sport to rapid fit in clacton, one of the testers has a cobra the other a Pop and they are always brilliant
aden Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 i am a mechanic at luton council, and have an mot license as i am a reserve tester in case any of the full time ones are sick or off for whatever reason, un fortunately i aint allowed to do my own cars, and as the full time lot are a bunch of jobsworths i have to get it done elsewhere
petrolhead Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 On a related note, how much do your local garages charge for labour? My local one charges £60 per hour and that seems to be fairly typical
Pye Man Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Posted February 4, 2008 I think its around £50 in Newcastle
mrmoo Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 I take all my motors to Hednesford Garage, in Hednesford (strangely enough) and have done for years. Hes about a fiva cheaper on the mot and will check anything you ask while hes under the car. Also uses a soft mallet to find rust, not a flat screwdriver like the last place i used to use. If your in the Cannock area hes the dogs. And dont ever use Gills in Four Ashes! He used to remove the side skirts on my MR2 to check for rust! There doesnt seem to be a gareth hunt emoticon to show what i think of Gills
davreeve Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 I worked at a small local garage for a while recently and although the money was crap(hence i left)i can honestly say that no one was ever conned i.e charged for work or parts that were not needed. In fact if there was a more cost effective way of doing somthing the customer was always made aware of it .This must be a rare occurance in this day and age.
bronze4door Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 my cars all got to the same place in old trafford last year it went to where my frind works and he said it will be cheaper but it wasn't and when it came out it needed a sill which was sound when it went in and csot me about £250 to put it right. he put a crow bar between the chasses and the leaf spring where the bushes are and put his weight on it and said they were knackered, when they were pulled out there was nothing wrong with them, the tinker lol didn't even notice the exhaust was blowing on it either or a warn anti-roll bar bush on the back, lets say i will not be going back and it will be going to the usual place for as long as i have it
escamino Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 I get my mot's done by a guy who was a school mate of my brother. Good as gold and is on the way to work, so easy to drop off and pick up.
