Admin Vista Posted June 28, 2008 Admin Report Posted June 28, 2008 Am I alone if finding this:- Pull up beside the pump and check wallet for cashflow, fill car to desired level say £30.00 for arguments sake, remove nozzle from car and put it back into the pump. Then walk to the counter offering my three crumpled tenners to be told £30.01 please! Where does the extra penny come from??? I'm certain I stopped at £30.00 but when I walk back to the pump, sure enough it's displaying £30.01! Anyone else find this or is it just me being scammed out of extra pennies?
geoffersmasher Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 i hate this, they probably have a button and do it if they dont like the look of you
johnny_h Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 Yes Vista, I was going to post this very same post the other day but just thought it was me being crap! Not only that but how FOOKING hard is it to stop at a round number these days. It seems the tiniest squeeze of the trigger spews forth several pence of fuel. It's bolloox. In Germany the fuel pumps are pre set. If you want 50 euros you pre set it and the pump automatically switches off. Also I found out most garages have the ability to do this. If you go into the garage and say you want to pre pay the pump will shut off at the amount you paid.
Messenjah Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 yeah been happening more and more to me recently ..... last night 20.02 yesterday morning 90.02 .... i know i stopped bang on
mk3tina Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 should put all those pennies you always throw away/find around the house in the centre console or ashtray for such events
Admin Vista Posted June 28, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted June 28, 2008 So I'm clearly not the only one!
lotusless Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 yep me as well i'm gonna argue the toss next time
Copey Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 not happened to me, though i dont very often stop on a mark i normally just fill up and pay with a card
Trevmk3 Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 i always pay on my card but have to fill up to the nearest 50p else i get uncomfortable i hate it when i go to pay and they say £40.01p so now i try and use pay at the pump when possible, which to people queing at the pumps looks like your driving off without paying
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 It's happened to me a couple of times, mostly at Asda when I worked in Manchester. I'd put the pump down and checked and it was £20, but when I reached the counter they asked for £20 and a penny. So I had an argument with them (in a busy shop) over a penny.
surfingturnip Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 not done it for a while now, but used to do it loads. I just get to about £9.90 and spend five minutes slowly filling up the next 10ps worth
Durham Fiesta Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 happened to me the other day luckily it was with the works fuel card, stopped at 70 quid when went to pay she says "70 pounds and a penny"
Supercharged Nat Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 its happened to me too. its gotta be a con though. if it happens to 1000 people in a day theyve made 10 quid. do that all week..........
Gonzo Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 I usually go by litrage at the pump, but if I know I put £30 in the tank and they ask for an extra penny, I'll just give em the £30 and naff off before they got chance to do owt about it.
caprinerd Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 done this as well put 30 in and as i put nozzle back it clocked up the 1P told them to get me nicked as i werent going to pay it
5hane Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 gawd, how petty are some people. if youve just spent £70 on overpriced fuel let people have the 1p off
sab6024 Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 I'm so glad I don't work for Shell anymore I used to get people in everyday asking if I'd pressed the button....yeh coz I got nothing better to do with my time It used to happen to me too but I fill by the litre not by the £ now
FredTransit Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 I hate to say this, but I have had the opposite. Fill up and it goes 1p over, but not been asked for the change, though I was ready for it. If it bothers anybody (me included) just say you have no more money at all, you just put what you had on you in the tank. I wouldn't mind but it costs enough as it is!
omj624p Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 I must live in a nice area! Some petrol stations here have a dish with 1p's in, if you go over by 1p then you just give them one from their dish! How cool is that
Mick The Cabbie Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 So what happens when it clocks £20.01 and ya tell the cashier you've only got two £20 notes???
baz105e Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 this happened to me like 5 times last week !!! has anibody noticed that @ tesco petrol stations to pay at pump all you do is put your card in and it spits it back out saying maximum spend £80. it doesn't ask for a pin number or anithing. mmmmmm let the fraudulant petrol buying begin.

It's not only the fact that someone could have nicked your card to pay for the fuel, but how does a pump know whether you are old enough to dispense fuel or even that the container (if you're using one) is Kite marked container and not just an empty lemonade bottle found in the bins. I'm still confused as to know how these pay at pump thingys are legal
caprinerd Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 borrowed wife motor today and thought id replace the petrol id used werent much so i put 5 quid in got to 4.98 and done it tiny touch at a time 4.98.... 4.99....5.01 what happend to 5.00
