Doc Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 a forum where you should be made to feel welcome no matter how lomg you have been using it I am a member of lots of forums and some are better than others for different reasons but I must admit that I only visit osf now and then these days. Reasons I feel Osf and some members have now got to big for its/there boots and that is a shame I love drag racing as the next person but it’s not the be all and end all of everything and the site is focused on it to much IMO Escortosis yes there are different old fords that ALL are worthy not just the escort and yes I have owned more that one escort back in the day I will continue to visit when I feal like it as I have made some good friends within Osf I know what you mean mate , the initial buzz of the site has been lost with the focus on racing and under the sheer weight of subscribers used to be i knew everyone and would have a laugh at the shows but this year at Cf and FF it didnt feel the same, Its a well laid out site full of experts but its lost its friendly face .....shame.
SmokeEm Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 I know what you mean mate , the initial buzz of the site has been lost with the focus on racing and under the sheer weight of subscribers used to be i knew everyone and would have a laugh at the shows but this year at Cf and FF it didnt feel the same, Its a well laid out site full of experts but its lost its friendly face .....shame. Couldn't disagree more. I had a fantastic time with everyone from here at Classic Ford. (Even Phil )
Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 28, 2009 Author Admin Report Posted September 28, 2009 Hi Doc I think the issues that you have experienced are only because you have gone away from the site for quite long periods of time (it’s not a criticism, just an observation) when you have been between cars or jobs and the site has continued to grow and moved on during those periods. People come and go on all forums and we have continued to increase our membership numbers with lots of the “newer” members becoming regular posters and contributing verbally on a regular basis . I can see how you might feel that the friendliness has gone but I think it’s purely because you just don’t know as many people as you used to on here With the 1000’s of members, we only get literally a handful of complaints – mainly from older members who don’t like change and don't feel quite as important as they used to . Classic Ford (to use your example) had the largest ever attendance by OSF and the huge BBQ that Chris did for us along with the mass of OSF tents and the piles of empties in the morning showed that lots of people had an absolute blast. It was just a shame that because of the numbers we were more spread out than we would have liked in the campsite but that is out of our control. Sometimes you have to make the effort to reap the rewards – try getting to know some of the newer members … you might find you like them lol And I know that you have vast experience with Old Skool Fords so I am sure they would benefit from your wisdom and your sense of humour .... I mean, who else would be brave/mad enough to drive to a Boxhill meet from the Glasgow area and then back again the same day
MM77 Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 I mean, who else would be brave/mad enough to drive to a Boxhill meet from the Glasgow area and then back again the same day Me. I drove from Surrey to Inverness for lunch a couple months ago

Mr.Sumo Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Problem is ladies, we need the YB is it going to have full on comfy trim Phhhhhiiiillllllll
Lardy Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 as said i myself dont go on this forum as much anymore as it seems to be all about terminal speed 1/4 mile stuff which really doesnt float my boat at all.I enjoy the meet at boxhill but my one complaint with this is that of all the times ive been to this (i have missed one in two years) not once has one of the top bods from this forum even intoduced themselves to me remember it is your party as such we are the guests so rather than talk to your mates try and talk to everybody introduce yourselves i couldnt even tell you what the top bods look like maybe this will alliviate the clickiness thats at time i think rightly banded about.oh and while im on one why ban people just because they start arguments surely thats what forum should encourage i really wouldnt care if someone said something horrible about my motor because I love it old fords are marmite personally i dont like escorts but i appreciate their sporting heritage moderators need to losen up a bit-well a lot actually and invite some of the red flag wavers back to make the bull charge and make the forum exciting to visit again
Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 28, 2009 Author Admin Report Posted September 28, 2009 Hello Lardy, With regard to introductions at Boxhill … if you don’t know who we are then how are we supposed to know who you are (unless of course, you stand by your own car for the whole meet) lol If you went to a busy Boxhill meet (most of them are) then you would have been 1 of maybe 100+ people at Ryka’s …. And how could we distinguish OSF members from the mates they bought along or joe public who is just wandering round to look at the cars or joe public who is just passing through. We would look pretty weird if we just went up to everyone and said hello I am Mk2Jo or Driver or Posse or OverHeadCam lol It would have been far easier for you to have asked around to find out who we were and come over and say hello …. You would have been greeted in a welcoming manner I can promise you. With regard to it being OUR party – if it was OUR party then there would be a few people that would definitely not get an invite lol …. We hold ALL of these events for you, the members … it’s nice to catch up with old friends that we don’t see which is why we stand and talk to people we know but we do also speak to people we don’t know as well. I have already addressed the ¼ mile thing so no need to respond to that. People don’t get banned for simply causing arguments only once. There is a lot of discussion that goes on between Admin, Mods and (sometimes) members before ANYONE gets banned and it is definitely not to the detriment of the masses. Flag wavers … not got a clue who you are on about I’m afraid – perhaps you would care to enlighten me and I will give you our answers. Despite what people see ON the forum, there is a lot that goes on OFF the main forum that members don’t see or hear and I think that your opinions are based on a limited knowledge of events. Those that have been banned, have been banned for good reason and will not be coming back …. Am not quite sure why the forum should be encouraging people to start arguments as you put it – what a strange comment to make lol …… We are all for a debate and an exchange of opinions but an argument … I don’t think so. On the point you made about you not caring if someone slags off your car then that may well be but some people have worked hard to make their cars how they want them to be – it may not be to everyone’s taste or choosing but that does not give people the right to slag them off – that is bullying pure and simple and will not be tolerated. If someone asks for an opinion it is best to say “it’s not my thing” rather than “it’s shit mate”. We don’t like to lose members because they no longer enjoy the forum BUT we do respect that this forum is not for everyone and we will NEVER please all of you but if we can keep the majority happy and continue to thrive then we will settle for that. What always amazes us Admin and Mods is those that moan about the site but continue to come back on here. If you want to let me know which meet you will be at next and tell me what you look like then any one of us will be happy to come over and have a good old chinwag with you … or you could ask at the next Boxhill meet (when a date is decided) who we are (although it sounds as though you know who we are already because you have summised that we only stand around and talk to our mates). I am not trying to be funny or sarcastic although I think I have probably achieved the latter unintentionally and your comments are valued but it is a 2 way street and you are just as capable of coming over to us and saying hello. I stand by my comments on those that start deliberate arguments just to wind people up as it achieves nothing except friction. We do like to hear your opinions good OR bad and we do consider your opinions - all of them - and we will try to reply to them but we just cannot please everyone I'm afraid .... is anyone still awake
RossMK2 Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 i love coming on here and chating hense how many post iv had
Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 28, 2009 Author Admin Report Posted September 28, 2009 Thank you Ross We like to hear people's thoughts and ideas and constructive criticisms so that we can consider making changes where and when they are needed. Thank you everyone including those that have posted negative comments on here - they are all valued and we do discuss all your thoughts to see if we think changes are needed
MM77 Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Just to add my comments: I've not met a single person on this forum, i'm a complete newb in terms of building a car, have zero interest in drag racing, and yet, have always felt incredibly welcome here
Mr2Caps Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 I think its all about being able to express opinions and accept others views as equally valid, have a laugh, ask questions and get advice from people on here, personally haven't found it too 1/4 mile based and found some interesting points of view. As for being escort biased perhaps, but then they are one of the more popular osf's and there is nothing wrong with that, in my opinon you want more about cortinas, post more about cortinas! Although I own capris, I will admit to having a soft spot for Granadas too, but find most osfs interesting even if not entirely to my own personal tastes! Ok I haven't been on here long so can't comment about how things have changed, but I pretty much get what I want from the forum as it stands.
shakey n his fezz Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 a BJ? thatd b a good forum
Lardy Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 fair play you answered all my critisisms (please excuse the spelling) as regards the red flag thing i meant its nice to have somepeople who rub people up the wrong way it makes for great discussions and posts ive never had the your car is shit thing and wouldnt expect anyone on here to say it i certainly wouldnt myself but it seeems some time people are scared to criticise as regards Boxhill i see your point but im quite a shy human and just like to look at other cars but it would have been nice to talk face to face about this site rather than bitch on a key board ..until the next boxhill meet then.....
Trevmk3 Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Thanks for your honesty guys ... I think it's quite a good point that a few of you have made about trying to involve newbies a bit more ... it can sometimes seem a little intimidating if people come across as knowing each other well I also agree with the comments that newbies need to play their part as well in plucking up the courage and getting involved in conversations/topics was me coming to the OSF xmas bash 07 having not met or spoken to anyone taking it a bit far though? i think some people at shows see the people aroung the stand (which can sometimes be alot of people) and dont want to/ havnt got the confidence to come up and try and get into a conversation with the people around (this is not a critisism of anyone as i was just the same at CF in 06, recognised Darrens face but he was with a few people), also some members havnt a clue what the members of admin or the mods look like so maybe a mugshot of each one with there names would be more helpful to them to get to know people from the site. thats all for now but im sure i can think of something else at some point
Admin Vista Posted September 28, 2009 Admin Report Posted September 28, 2009 also some members havnt a clue what the members of admin or the mods look like so maybe a mugshot of each one with there names would be more helpful to them to get to know people from the site. You have but to ask and I shall provide: Mkk2 Jo (left) OHC That's it folks, can't find any more dodgy admin shots Think I'm gonna need to hide out in Cornwall a while longer eh
ratman Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 A lot of good points raised here I think I know I am going to get shot down for speaking but some things have to be said I feel the site has changed in the last year or so and mood is different as an older member I remember most of the admin team before they was admin just plain members like all of us, some NOT all I mite add have changed it’s like they have a different persona now power crazy was how it was put to me recently by a ex member I know the job of admin is a difficult one but remember no one forced you to do it you volunteered I my self wouldn’t do it and I know that with out a admin set up there wouldn’t be a site but look inwards guys not outwards all the time And at one box hill I went to all the admins stood by the 4x4’s in a grope not very welcoming to new members How about t shirts saying who the top bods are so the shy new members may pluck up the courage to say hello I know the talk in the admin room is here goes ratman again moaning but the day that did it for me was when leaving box hill after 10+ guy had left with rolling burn outs and I mite add mods and admins egging us on so I did the dead and got a pm bollocking me from one of the admins that was doing the egging on. If you look at my post count I’m not a post whore who posts on every thing just to jack up my count I reply if I like something or if some one I know had posted something that I agree with and I don’t post if I don’t want to and I don’t see why I should get slagged for it as I am still a paid up member That’s me done Ratman the misery
Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 28, 2009 Author Admin Report Posted September 28, 2009 Thanks for your comments Steve (Ratman) . I am not sure who you are referring to about the egging on of the burnouts at Boxhill although I would be interested to hear who it was. However, I do recall removing a burnout picture of you leaving Boxhill which, at the time, infuriated you because you felt that I had deleted the picture for no reason. Although if you recall I did PM you immediately to say that I had done it because I had been advised by a member of Her Majesty's finest that it could be used as incriminating evidence by the police if the person could be seen to be doing it on a public highway and the numberplate was visible - I deleted other people's pics as well from that post so you were not alone .... I am not sure if that is the incident you are referring to? In any case .. just because the others are egging you on, doesn't mean you or anyone else has to follow ... peer pressure should have passed you by when you reached adulthood . I would agree with your comments about Admin volunteering to do the job ... in fact we were all invited to do the job but, nevertheless, we all agreed to do it and as such we expect to take a certain amount of shit from disgruntled members who don't agree with what we have done or why although some members seem to think that we act alone when in fact we act as a group both day and night and with the consultation of at least one other member of Admin . I am not sure what you mean by looking inwards but if you would care to elaborate either on here or via PM then all of us who help to run and maintain the site would be pleased to hear from you Now, to quote Ratman: I know I am going to get shot down for speaking but some things have to be said The Mods and Admin on here are not going to change ... we work well as a team and run a fairly successful "club" both on and off the forum with the meets and events that are arranged for everyone to take part in and like I have said, doesn't really matter what disgruntled ex-members think ... they have moved on for their own reasons and if they clashed with "power hungry" Mods or Admin then perhaps it is because of their attitude and not the attitude of the Mod/Admin that they choose to still be moaning about forever after! The site has not suffered from their departures and continues to grow and change as all good things do. Again, thank you for your comments
