Oh FFS !!

This vote was put to the members which is the fairest thing to do. When admin decide for the poll to end is when we put up/shut up !!!

Everyone is entitled to an opinion whether you or I personally agree or disagree .

There is no need for childish name calling etc !!!

Toast or cereal?

This makes no sense at all. Everybody has been given a chance to vote on rhis matter and so far the majority have decided they want the forum to stay as it is. I like toast, so I voted for toast, no matter how it comes.

So far it looks as though the votes are leaning heavily towards staying as we are at the moment.

As you get one choice of vote for 'staying as is' yet 3 choices for change I'd say its not a fair vote.

If you were to add all the votes for change together then theres only a 4% difference (as it stands), not really that much in it, to me that speaks volumes.

Youve missed my point mate, and to be honest im not really in favour of a change but all im saying is that the poll isnt exactly fair.

As said only 4% of the membership have voted, so that's not enough to make an un wanted change ..and over half that have voted don't want changes,

A suggestion I'd say is that once this subject is resolved it should not re surface or be on an agenda for a fixed term ...maybe ten years. As the campaigners will not listen or except any negative out come. To get more modern none oldskoolfords in

I can see your point of view but I don't see how we could have done it otherwise. There clearly are people that would accept some limited change but not radical change. We had to give them a voice too. How many people who voted for adding mk2 Fiestas would have voted against change at all if we'd given two choices only, i.e. All or Nothing.

To be honest I was expecting a greater vote for limited change than the poll has shown.

The poll will continue to run for a reasonable time period to give as many members as possible the chance to voice their opinions and vote (though getting all 11000 members to vote is a pipe dream as many of them aren't active any more and don't care). All we ask is that the discussions are kept rational and with no mud slinging.

I like OSF meaning what it does but it does cause one concern that I feel shuld be aired, I've noticed this due to re-buillding a Capri and my brother trying to get an OSF, with pricing for everything old (and yes cooler)shooting up eventually OSF will be out of reach for alot of people unless they already have one. Especially younger people.

Anyway just a side note really.

A post put on the wrong room ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Having spent the last 24hrs reading all the posts my heads still buzzing :banghead: ,I've come to the conclusion that OSF is a one off, and in my opinion we all have to progress but whether it be large steps or very tiny ones we must put our faith in the admin

My two penneth, I stopped posting on here shortly after getting my Cortina mk5 - although it was 'osf' , it didnt seem to fit in so well as it was too much like the newer fords :banghead: . So I went over to 'Cortina80' for a while.

Then I got my XR3 and now use the mk3 Escort forums, cos I'd rather talk to like minded people who are just as enthusiastic about them than have it slagged off (generally by people who have never even driven one  )

Having said that I still have a mk2 Escort and when I am looking for inspiration I will come on here and nose through the resto section, and if and when I get the enthusiasm to restore it then I will start posting again.

Even if you did 'allow' the later fords on here, doubt their owners would be made to feel very welcome so on balance it is best left as is.

To be honest i cant decide , i would like to see the stats on how many members we have that own 50,s & early 60,s fords , when i go to the osf meets consuls , zephyrs ,zodiacs , 100es , anglias , are totally outflanked by late 60,s to late 70,s fords obviously mainly escorts, so if the number of 50,s 60,s is low or dwindling then we have to open the doors for later models ( i.e 80,s fords ) to keep the members numbers up . Now my next problem there is that i love all cortina,s standard or modified , anglia,s standard or modified , escorts standard or modified , the standard models of these 3 all ooze so much character (chrome bumpers & hubcaps etc )and the modified models are always interesting , skip forward to 80,s , sierras only the top models do it for me xr4i & cosworth , escorts only the rs models 1600i & turbo , so i cant stand the thought of base model 1600 L sierra,s or base model MK3 1.3L escorts on the osf classic ford stand !!!, but does the club move forward or stand still ???

So i,m really not sure

What makes a car a classic car?

I say if there old and lets face it mk1 Fiesta's are now old lets include them.

This will also bring new blood onto the scene and will preserve the cars of resterday.

More variety i say, its ok owning a old ford mk1 Escort or Anglia but what do people do to them?! put MODERN engines in them!and yet these same people say "oh no cant include them cars there too modern!"

Each to ther own and all that

How about a "soft" section that allows posts/info/builds of the later models, so that they are all grouped together for the time being, and then see how it goes, and keep monitering the traffic to see if a particular model deserves its own section? This way if a regular member of a traditional old skool buys something later then they can ask questions/post pics etc. without having to go elsewhere!

Mk2 Fiesta's could be bundled in the same section as MK1's Fiesta's as the are virtually identical mechanically & chassis wise, much like the mk1/2 escorts! And evolution more than a new model!

MK3 Escorts are now starting to look old skool and are attracting more "sensible" owners than in the past, I wouldn't mind a nice S1 or RS1600i on my driveway :)

Sierra's are a complete no no for me, Cosworth or otherwise, these are catered for elsewhere, these need atleast another 10 years in the wilderness lol

Granada's, I would limit this to the 1985 MK2 models. The later MK3's can rot in hell with the Sierra's

There are a lot of comments regarding FWD vs RWD, and to be honest I lost interest in Fords when everything went FWD, BUT, I am also a VW enthusiast and the MK1 Golf was launched in Germany in 1974 so there is nothing wrong with the FWD format so long as you don't want to do donuts in B&Q car park  FWD cars have been with us for an age now so shouldnt be prejudiced against IMO

Dave you do come out with some shite you know . The reason for the poll is not for us it's for all the members what they want . Like I've said I know what I want but like I said its about what you guys want. ..

I'm 42 so to me oldskool would be pre 1980 , I guess if your in your 20/30 s then the newer stuff would be classed old .

I like the site the way it is personally :)

What about a "your other projects" section... Kind of an anything goes area which doesnt encroach on any of the pre 80's stuff. I personally cant see the harm in something like that. Plus the members who are interested in other builds can comment, those who aren't dont have to bother looking.

Run it as a trial. If it doesnt take off or add anything positive to the forum then just get rid.

I think I'm a bit late catching up with this one :banghead: old Skool to me is pre80ish. Down here in the way out westcountry turnouts for meets etc always struggle and I think we would benefit from a wider membership. I know a lot that have newer and older cars but tend to go around to shows together. If we could have got them to our last meet it would have doubled our turnout

. I'm not fussed though as long as I can drive my anglia and meet like minded people in fords or whatever :D

I think it's got to be an all or nothing approach I'm afraid.

We can't for instance accept people onto the forum in a limited fashion telling them that their cars are welcome on the forum but not on the stand. Nor can we encourage people to sign up only to kick them out a few months later if it doesn't work out.

I don't come on here much now as to be honest and this is what is needed in this post honesty. The forum is stale and not really the lively place it was when I joined all those years ago. The banter was good and so was the social side but something's gone wrong and I believe it's to do with not moving on with the scene (oldskoolford) to some younger members means mk3 and mk4 escorts and mk2/3 fiestas you can see this by walking around cfs last year. I now go on the likes of turbo sport and Rse etc as they seem to be lighter hearted and not tied down to some out dated forum model.

It's just not the same on here no more sadly

I think stale is overly strong Gordon, the forum is quieter than it used to be I'll grant you but personally I think that's because so many people migrated elsewhere because they thought the grass was greener there rather than they went there because it was quiet here. I use TS too and will grant you that it's a great forum, I also browse RSE but still feel that this forum has something to offer that they don't, the size of the OSF stand every year at CF would appear to support that supposition.

Anyway, this thread was never intended to be about one forum vs another.
