Got the old Anglebox out for a drive the other night. Went to cadwell on a track day. Previous to this we was out with it at blyton circuit and to be honest was a disaster. Couldn't keep it on the Tarmac and it had a habit of facing the wrong way on the track. So after few adjustments to the suspension off to cadwell. It managed to stay on the track this time and impressed with the way the car performed. Few more tweeks in the pipeline as it was constantly lifting wheels off the floor. So apart from scrubbing a full set of intermediate tyres off all went well. Looking forward to the next one.

Driving your old Ford round a race track has to be done! Ive driven Silverstone twice at the Ford fairs - exciting! Hockenheim excellent! and the best buzz of all was the Nurburgring! a real buzz!:ykt:

ahh but they aren't old fords anymore, as Colin says, kit cars, or lookie likies lol, you cant class an anglebox powered with a Vauxhall lump as a ford

its a bit like the question from the other post as to what newer cars should be allowed in OSF

I cant understand why anyone had to ask, OSF lets anything in, as long as it looks like an OSF, everything else on the car can be as modern or new or any other make as you like

most cars on here aren't proper OSFs anymore

She looks as though some stiffer spring rate required or a fat or double front roll bar ?

The pic suggests plenty of body roll !

Front are 350lb at the mo with 160lb rears, got some 450 and 180s to go on. Front is compression strut with anti roll bar. I did have my lad in with me and he weighs 16 stone which didn't help. On saying that did keep up with some race clios round the bends but an aerial atom NO chance...lol

Can understand your point Ray, but as we are not entering concourse competitions we don't have to abide by 'originality' Had my days of prepping 'original' things for shows and to be honest if you built a car or bike to as came out the factory and put it in a show I can gaurantee 100% you wouldn't win anything.....bin there done that got the tea shirt and about 120 trophies to prove it!

I remember my Twincam in a conourse with Club Lotus (they have a section for associated cars like Cortinas and Escorts) and one of the judges came up to me after the scoring said he didnt vote for my car because I didnt have the original Australian style mirrors on it. I told him they were were in fact original for the first 1970 models before Ford Australia designed their abomination they put on every model car for the next decade. So you're right, you can go original and still get penned for it.

i think the point to my comment was right royally missed lol

I was not talking about concourse or entering competitions, and it wasn't about winning originality contests, you should know I'm not one far taking my cars to shows or a track

my point was, if you claim to have an old skool ford, then in my opinion, unless you can prove that a part is no longer procurable, whether it be new, re-con or re furbish able, and its very un-economical to re manufacture, then that part shouldn't be on the car, but it should be acceptable to fit an old ford part from a different model if it will do the job, keeping it old

but when you take a ford body, put aftermarket brakes, suspension, or parts from a late ford or parts from a different manufacturers vehicle, then you no longer have an old ford car, you have what is effectively a kit car

so if your going to put a Vauxhall red top engine in, why not just run the Vauxhall car in the first place

by putting a zetec engine in say a mk1 escort, its no longer a mk1 escort, and its no longer an old school ford, and the free road tax should be revoked

On the same token does not building an old car from new parts constitute the same, basically your building a car from a 'flat' pack just like a 'kit' so really a car purchased in kit form ie,wings/ inner wings/floor panels/ bulkhead/ door skins/ boot / bonnet then put it together ( meccano kit number 20) ...is that not a kit car? At least I can say the shells on my two supposed kit cars are ORIGINAL. So WHO has the kit car ??

While im more pro-originality than most, even just this week I am pissed at myself for putting the booster decal 1cm more to the right that it was originally but even I must admit that your definition of an old skool Ford is a bit unobtainable. I would even say it would preclude my Mk2 which still has its original 2.0L Pinto engine including head and camshaft that it came out of the factory with. A LSD or ATB would be outside your definition as regular diff centres are available and serviceable. I am one to even retain solid brake disks where as most go vented but there are parts on the car which are simply of a poor design. Our Pinto engines for example inc RS2000, (as there is no differences in specification here), use the Cortina exhaust manifold that is most inefficient and as crackable as fine porcelain at a hammer throw competition, Its had extractors almost since new and even now Im changing exhaust manifolds for a Euro RS manifold to balance using a Ford manifold but one that is still far better than original. But originals are still available and inexpensive since everyone discards them but I have gone with a period Ford part so I have gone against one of yours definitions but then also with a period solution as you suggested. So there are many variables that you cant make it so cut and dry. There are a number of other flaws that were present in the original design, like they crappy low first gear in Type E gearboxes or the ridiculous plastic thread that fatigues in the gearstick. Replacing them with better ratio or a metal thread doesnt rob it of its old Ford presence. Its really fine tuning an otherwise great car. Every concours car I have ever seen has changed even if its just down to something as simple as 2 pac paint. People use it because its harder and more durable than older original paints although you can still get the older stuff. Its a matter of perspective and I think a limited upgrade can still allow it to keep its old skool moniker. Like you, I prefer period engines but have to concede there are more modifier owners than not. It would be a very empty forum otherwise. Its not just the Ford scene either, every Morris Minor I have seen in the past twenty years here has had a Datsun 1200 engine in it. People often modify for things that work with a minimum of effort and inexpensively rather than scour breakers for that exact period part. There are more practical people out than nutters like me that will waste months seeking the original heater hose clip.

i understand Ray's comment, but like a superspeed Escort from the 1970's, would also not be considered as OSF then. Forum would rather be

gettin boring with all purist's ,   :wah:

I thought this site was set up specifically to get away from all that RSOC style bullshit and snobbery.

How much does it cost to do a track session and are there regs with helmet etc?

Varies from track to track, average up north £140 just go on web site of your desired track and the prices are there. Only helmets I've found they don't allow are the crosser pointy chin type.

I have this issue if I log in through Windows exlporer on my laptop with Windows 10.  If I log in through Chrome on the same laptop, I don't have an issue.

Ray , Perhaps it's not a genuine manufacturers original laptop !!!! maybe it has other manufacturers red top parts in it ... Does that make it a kit laptop ? Lol
