Scams?

I submitted an advert in wanted, for two door mirrors. I had two replies by two different people asking me to contact, ‘their mate’ lovely bloke, via gmail accounts. They are new joiners and have only posted said post. The norm?

I cant see any replies in your For Sale thread. Did they send you private messages? Can you give me links to their profiles?

Its not the norm at all in fact this seems one of the least spammed sites around but you do get attacks in waves from time to time. I will look into it. Thanks for mentioning it.

No, it's not the norm and we do ban people for this sort of activity. I banned two last week in fact, we rely on members to report it though.

It was in parts wanted. They newly joined, then sent me a message with a gmail account offering door mirrors. See attached handles.

This sort of scam seems to becoming widespread - seen reports on several unrelated forums! Person posts wanted ad, a 'newbie' replies with 'I have exactly what you want' message, even includes photo. They request payment (usually a bit cheaper than the norm) via paypal Friends & Family. If fooled, money goes and strangely no goods ever received. The photo will be grabbed from another ebay seller or Google! It used to be big ticket items, but they've learnt small & cheap done lots of times wins more often! IF IT LOOKS TOO GOOD - IT USUALLY IS A SCAM!

One of those has already been banned so our Imperious Leader has already been on it. Probably one of those he just mentioned he banned. The other is still current but does look like he joined just to message you that offer. From the US so have doubts thats where some Escort door handles actually are. Will try investigate with Vista further.

We live in the age of scammer its just getting worse! Not everyone are scammers though, the money from the Nigerian Prince is going into my account any day now, very trustworthy fellow.

Hmmm they seem to have targeted you thats for sure. It does seem very genuine though normally there are errors you can pick up on. Maybe its even genuine but not worth the risk unfortunately. One of the benefits of buying from forum members is that they are real and genuine one and you can see them post regularly which you can check and not just offering to sell you stuff as soon as they join.

I had a similar thing happen on the XROC site had a pm sent in reply to an ask for a part with photos etc … being new to the site at the time i had no idea  it was a scam tbh ,   also thought it was  a secure site and it must be genuine as a pm was sent and it is a paid up members site only ….. how wrong could i be .  Scum of the earth these scammers .

Banned him too. His IP address is in the US so highly unlikely he, or his mate, has a stash of OSF parts

Just in case this guy tries  to join the club his username  is  renoxa9811 and his mate who has the imaginary parts that clearly don’t exist is Ollischris742@gmail.com ……be aware . He or they tried to contact another member via pm’s on the XROC after i highlighted it on the forum , so at least it stopped someone else getting scammed .  AVOID THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS …

Looks like he/they have tried a few of us here, I had been contacted by "WILSONSMITH453", his mate had "THE ITEM I WAS LOOKING FOR" !!??

 

No doubt he could also arrange for you to have a Pint & a Curry with "ELVIS" were Elvis would send his private Jet to pick you up and drop you off after the event.

 

Reported to the Mod's & they have sorted it promptly.

But at the very least it makes everyone that little bit more cautious/wise before the fact & not after.

I spotted another one last week and sent it through to admin for removal. 

Extra vigilance needed by all of us to keep them at bay.
