That would make the most sense actually derived from the term "Donkey Engine" used for stationary steam engines that drive other utilities.

Seems more old skool mechanical engineering to me. Too much beer at "Old" Farmers club night using the missus Fiesta. There is mention the wheels cost 84 quid. 6 hours ago, Rich T said: Can't have great steering. 6 hours ago, dt36 said: Exactly. LOL I'll put the British love of tractor wheels down to genetics because you invented the traction engine or something. Given we don't actually make wheels here any more (or cars for that matter!) all our wheels come from either the UK or USA. So I prefer to blame you and the yanks for that! 🥰

Bearing in mind where you are ie. not close to anywhere - China, Thailand or the Philippines would be more likely ! I suppose the Kiwi's are a source - they'd make them out of oil drums and baling wire though - they are a resourceful bunch if nothing else LOL!

For the average manufacturing worker on the street they have been put out to pasture. We are popular for Infant Formula though. One big Chinese company put in cadmium powder or something along those lines in their own stuff and caused much loss of life so the Chinese dont trust their own and buy Australian stuff instead. There is a big illegal industry here where Chinese nationals buy all of the Baby Formula off the shelves here and ship it off back to China for hundreds of dollars a tin. Locals cant get any for their babies though. Its a strange world
katana Posted October 3, 2019 Report Posted October 3, 2019 Oh yeah they both sound very Australian! Setting up / having a company with Australia / USA / UK at the end just infers it is a subsidiary from the 'Mother ship' and in this case the former in Korea and the other based in Germany! I'm guessing its likely to be an assembly project but I suppose its manufacturing with a small 'm' at least! 1

Granted yes, it will be a major assembly of OEM parts, but does create a lot of jobs and support roles. Specialists are usually brought it to fill some roles, but hopefully a lot of the jobs will go to locals already in the area. 1

You pretty much nailed it exactly! 2 hours ago, Vista said: Watch out for the extra high speed reverse gear that French military kit is normally equipped with 😉 Its their new stealth sub technology so you wont even hear them grinding into reverse most likely. No wonder the Yanks tried to force our hands to buy the Japanese ones instead they need us to charge forward as cannon fodder not go backwards to legitimise their actions. I guess you guys know how that feels as well when you get asked to jump first yet when the shoe is on the other foot it takes them years to get in the game! 🤣

The Camaro platform is basically also the Commordore which was Australian designed as well, as the Americans didn't have an independent rear suspension layout for that car so they used ours instead. So some export did take place. No more though. 1
chinkamon Posted October 4, 2019 Report Posted October 4, 2019 1 of my favourite cars was the monaro, I had a Vauxhall calibra which I always thought was at least styled with holden in mind, I love the fact that holden came with stupid big motors mostly 😁 1
