Its funny how British bad taste suddenly becomes Australian or alternatively when forced to fess up its rebranded as British Retro chic! Note the number plates chaps. That thing is an abomination no matter what decade it was built in. Or are you saying that is representative of the British custom scene back then? Oh my was it really that bad?! The Twin American Mercury Capri vents on the rear flank are particularly tasteless. Its evident we got the latest donk craze from the Americans but clearly we got our van mod inspiration from somewhere else, and more over we never surpassed the masters after seeing that! 😗 However if the fantasy mural van craze is just a 70/80s period thing in England as you say then how do you explain this? Australia didnt even get Escorts past Mk2s! Apart from the year model model I dont see a lot of evolution there I must say? (Skull on the tow ball, NICE!) 🤢

I've actually seen it at a show and while the airbrushing is pretty good, the van on the whole is awful.

Well it's better than I could do anyway!! I have shaky hands so while thats not the best airbrushing its still way beyond what I could ever imagine. I have never liked murals or pictures on cars and bikes and that whole scene but I do admire how they create the images they do with barely an outline when they create these airbrush artworks. That van as a whole is bad though, I feel guilty now posting that as a friendly jibe knowing now you have seen it in real life. Apologies, your eyes must hurt. We never got that 60's acid culture you always hear the Americans refer too. Did you guys get that? It was more the mellow weed movement here. There is a country town called Nimbin that still has a bong festival, I bet they have a van display as part of the festivities selling munchies and cookies out the back. katana
That's intriguing! Its not bad or good in equal measures. If the interior was anything but red it'd be better. A Rag Top Mk2 Escort - not something you see everyday!

Personally I think the lines quite suit it........but I bet it looks shit with the roof up (if there even is a roof?) and flexes like a twig in a breeze (or weighs a ton from additional stiffening). Rally Pack 2000
Although that one isn't an Australian one, there were quite a few conversions like that done here in the 80s

Be more subtle with Nicks car so forget the arches as he would notice instantly but go with the roof lowering and Leyland handles, they are a nice touch.
