Cooperbloke Posted November 8, 2022 Report Posted November 8, 2022 (edited) Well, it's new to me! My name is Steve and I'm from Mildenhall in Suffolk. Hello! I bought a Mk1 Escort on Saturday, which is my first OSF since 2001. Its a '74 2 door in Sunburst Red imported from South Africa in 2016. The previous owner - an amazing guy called Jack - is a master coachbuilder and he restored the car over lockdown. The car is absolutely flawless (other than needing a new rear betacloth rear seat cover - which I've ordered from Aldridge) and I consider myself very lucky to be the new owner. All the OSFs I ran on the 80's and 90's were less than great, but were still a lot of fun. This one has a Harris 1700 Xflow. I'm looking forward to getting out to shows and events in '23. I will be asking daft questions, so please humour me! Thanks! Edited November 8, 2022 by Cooperbloke 4 6

PS - Can I get images of the two VIN plates for our South African data base? I dont have many Mk1s in it so its full of unknown and missing information. Thanks Muchly. 1

Yes, I want to tidy a few pieces of trim, but completely happy otherwise. There's only the one plate - the other is a home made plate with the HPE numbers on it. I'll message you an image of the SA VIN plate - I assume it won't end up online somewhere...

I'm so thankful it's rust free!! Edited November 9, 2022 by Cooperbloke

Definitely not for posting anywhere, we keep it to help decode South African cars when members reach out needing to find more information and what some of the codes mean. Ford SA reused some of the codes for different years so its been years of work but with each SA car owner that joins it gets a little easier. Thanks again 2
BaileyMex Posted November 9, 2022 Report Posted November 9, 2022 Cracking looking MK1 there! You must be well chuffed, cant beat a Xflow! 1

Thanks mate. 👍 You're not wrong! I had thought that whatever I end up with would get a blacktop and a Type 9. I've changed my mind...
BaileyMex Posted November 9, 2022 Report Posted November 9, 2022 I've got a type 9 in mine, but the Xflow is 100% staying 1

YellowTaxi Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 You got a very nice looking car there. I bet that 'evolves' over the years in your ownership. As for the Mexico stripes, go for it. If you decide you dont like it just remove them. These cars we own are a constantly evolving being and are never ever finished. Drive it, tinker with it and enjoy it. Welcome to the fold. 1

I think - as long as the fabric of the car is unchanged - the rest is ‘nuts n bolts’ and can be reversed. I appreciate your point of view. Thanks 👍🏼
