Carl555 Posted September 5, 2025 Report Posted September 5, 2025 Hi, this is my first post as a new member of OSF. I have a 73 Mexico that I am looking to fit a set of twin 40 Webers. to, the car has the long tower servo arrangement that I would like to retain. I am after some advice and potentially a part to suit. I was wondering which inlet manifold I would need to use, I have heard the short manifold from a 1.3 x-flow, but I’m not sure if that’s correct and if so how do you identify it as being correct. cheers
Pbsmk2 Posted September 5, 2025 Report Posted September 5, 2025 Hi Carl, welcome along. i don’t have any answers for you, but I’ll follow along as this is an upgrade I’d like to do to my mk2. Phil.
Dave Knight Posted September 5, 2025 Report Posted September 5, 2025 Welcome to the club Carl, Trust me, someone will be along shortly…..some expertise on here. 👍
Jerrytom161 Posted September 5, 2025 Report Posted September 5, 2025 Welcome to the club Carl ,would be good to see some photos of your Mexico . 👍
accord83 Posted September 6, 2025 Report Posted September 6, 2025 Following, I have a long tower servo on my 1360 and wonder if a single 40 would be better than a 32/36.

BaileyMex Posted September 8, 2025 Report Posted September 8, 2025 Welcome to OSF Carl! Fortunately mine is an earlier Mex with the servo on the right hand side so my 40's sit sweet. But pretty sure I've seen loads of people anfle the servo tower down a bit? Might need a bit it fettling, but I'm sure that's an option. I've always wanted to have a go on a single 45 on a Lynx manifold for some reason. 1
PeteRS8084 Posted September 9, 2025 Report Posted September 9, 2025 I had a single 45 on a lynx manifold on my second mk2 rs that I bought of a German guy while I was in BAOR in the late 80s. The pinto had a piper 285 cam and a single box janspeed system. I drove it back to the UK to have the carb set up on a rolling road in some place in Shropshire, they did a great job and it drove so much better. 1

PeteRS8084 Posted September 10, 2025 Report Posted September 10, 2025 Yeah once set up correctly it was really good, and of course you get a bit of induction sound from the 45 that is always addictive lol. 1 1
Nige65 Posted September 10, 2025 Report Posted September 10, 2025 Had a Mk1 Mexico a few years ago with Twin 40's, the tower was lowered to fit them:
Carl555 Posted September 10, 2025 Author Report Posted September 10, 2025 That’s a nice neat installation. Would you happen to know or remember what inlet manifold you used please. It looks quite short.
Nige65 Posted September 11, 2025 Report Posted September 11, 2025 Sorry but the carbs and manifold were already fitted to the car when I purchased it, would really like to own it again but vey unlikely!
Carl555 Posted September 11, 2025 Author Report Posted September 11, 2025 Thanks for sending those through. Very nice looking Mk1. how long ago did you own it.

I owned from 2004 to 2010, had to sell due to personal circumstances unfortunately, it was one of the last Mk1 Mexico’s built, it was ‘P’ reg having been built in December 1974 and registered in September 1975.
Johnny Boy Posted September 14, 2025 Report Posted September 14, 2025 Not a crossflow, but I did have to lower the servo, to clear the carbs.
guido Posted September 14, 2025 Report Posted September 14, 2025 @ Johhnyboy. That is LHD or RHD trouble of it. But always a way to go around it. For sure no crossflow Kent 😄 Looks like Zetc.

I think the front panel is different to the UK ones, as I had to cut a clearance hole in the front panel , or the brake master cylinder would not go down low enough. The SA front panel has bulges into the engine by both sides of the radiator. 1
guido Posted September 14, 2025 Report Posted September 14, 2025 there is always an option to reso;lve a problem if you are handy with this all. You could get a baised pedal box intstead. without a brake servo sorry for bad english, i am very tired now, got to get to bed.. Work starts at 7 AM.

I wanted to keep it easy to put back standard if i wanted .
