RFChris Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 Someone knocked on my door and came out with.... "Ere mate, we've had a few complaints about your car, if your having trouble getting shot of it i can take it away for nowt" My response? "I shift every morning to work and back, and i shifted it through its MOT last week. Before you come knocking on someones door so some fooking research, knob-head" Cmpod loudly slams the door in his face. apple pie. NB, this was whil i had the silver MKII Capper.
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 It's not just cars. We've got a slate roof and a few years ago we had it re-laid. All the tiles were taken off and put back on with the broken and damaged ones replaced. We had three or four people knock at the door asking if they can have (for free) the slates we'd taken off because "they're not worth owt". Cheeky barstewards.
escortmad79 Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 I knocked on a door a while ago enquiring a mk2 Cortina owned by 2 brothers, used to do the car shows locally, was told the Cortina wasn't up for sale but I could buy their old shape rover 100 (Similar to this one) Nah, don't want that, I wanted the Cortina which is now looking very sorry for itself

Kieran Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 i know if two mk1 escorts sitting on the drive rotting away and one of them has a sign on saying not for sale
Pye Man Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 I had a guy go a little mad at me. When I was working down Worcester on the M5 a year or two ago, I noticed a garden that was home to a mk1 escort. I knocked at the guys door and asked if I could look. He went mental and started going on about how they werent for sale, nor that he showed them. Any who I think he must have just thought I was another young upstart. After me arguing with him that I was genuine and owned a mk1 (bloody arguing with the guy to look at his property when he didnt want me to, can you believe it ) In the end he showed me around and actually turned out to be a spot on bloke When I was 15/16 there used to be a red 2door. I was in love with it. So when out the pushbikes my brother was like why dont you knock on the door and see if want to sell it. So I did (at which my brother was shocked and mortified) They werent in though
negri Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 i have a guy round the corner from me who has a rs2000 custom sitting . i ask him everytime i see him if he is selling it . he thinks its worth a proper fortune . and i told him to name his price and he hasnt yet . keeps telling me when he gets a spare afternoon he will dig it out and clean it for me to look at . but that day will never come . proper waste of a motor as id have it looking spot on in no time edited to say no doubt if and when he sells it he wont even contact me
ratman Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 and mine aint for sale either How much for the yellow escort mr
Admin Vista Posted June 4, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 4, 2007 I can see both sides of the coin on this one Like most of you it irks me to see old cars rotting away when they could have been saved by earlier intervention. BUT Remember that you may only visit and ask once or twice, but if you've noticed it and are interested then you can be sure that plenty of other people have too. Imagine if your door bell rang on a daily basis and you were presented with another stranger wanting to buy your car? What's more, the bulk of cold callers will probably try to convince you it's a rot box and you should give it away as they're doing you a favour by getting it out of your way. It'd get tiresome wouldn't it? I reckon leaving a note with a number and polite message is the best way, do it a couple of times and if you get no response the owner obviously isn't interested.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 in the past ive asked if their car is for sale and now i dont know if i would before my escort got stolen last new years eve i always had people asking if it was for sale or leaving notes with phone numbers on and it pissed me off im also paranoid that it was maybe some one i said no to that came back and stole it i wasnt rude to any of them just simply said not for sale and never will be then i got a capri and fook me it started again i dont have the capri now either as it was bought for breaking but it really does get on my nerves if my car was for sale it would be addvertised
Durham Fiesta Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 theres a bloke across my street has a fiesta 1300s on his drive thats just rusting away but he won't sell it. I asked his wife a few months ago and she said "i'm not sure what he's doing with it but he'll never part with it" so in other words its gonna sit and rot for years to come

sab6024 Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 I've never done it, but on my rounds I keep seeing an XR4x4 in a barn. I'm too shy to go and ask about it. There is also an Anglia shaped tarpaulin in someone's driveway when I go into another client.
