Retromotorsport Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Now you've just seen that your numbers are up, you and you alone have hit the Jackpot.. a few million is flying into your bank and you have a choice ..... Now do you go for...... (1) a no expense spared trackday/race/rally car (30-40k for trackday race/road car and 80k for a historic rally car) and if yes why this one and not the next one ......... (2) a no expence spared standard car with just bolt on mods or factory fitted options up to Gp1 ... (recent Mk1 1100 to concourse standard cost 37k and a mk2 rs2 apparently cost 44k ) and why this one compared to No1 So you've got no money worries, and the interest your earning on the millions is more than the monthly build invoices, so its practically a free car. But you can only choose one of the two options, so think hard... and remember, the two cars cost about the same (yes we know they can be done cheaper..but, your a millionaire, you play not do) Click on the poll, so we have a count, and then post up.... which one you went for and why, you can even add why you didnt want the other option.
richie_stix Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I voted for the top one... but full race/rally wouldn't really be what i would go for... more a pro-street with full interior trim and the such, but just nice and clean with a big, reliable engine!
BIGKEV Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I'd buy a shitload of cars and have a fleet of Thunder Bastards - one for each day of the month lol I would also buy a load of New Mercs and Beemers and would invite everyone over to banger race them in my Massive back Garden till no recognisable part was left - and I would invite the top dog from mercedes to watch too.
Retromotorsport Posted April 15, 2009 Author Report Posted April 15, 2009 Option 1, the full on racecar.. why? because its what gets my juices going, i've loved Escorts since i was a nipper, and thats when Mk2's where still in the showrooms!!!! The idea that an old car can be made good enought to hang onto the back of a supercar round a track is something that excites my brain, the work involved, the minute changes to geometries, the re-designing of the suspension, the changes inside and outside of the shell, I was bought up on Supersaloons, Thundersaloons, The DRM (german touring cars, batmobile BMW's and Zakspeed Fords) and later the DTM .... cars that are pulled apart, given more power and a chassis to cope with it, side on, the look much the same, but lower, looking from above, they are a lot wider, the Gp4 zakspeed Escorts ran 13" wide rear wheels when the Gp4 rally cars ran 8's and 9's ... these cars ar re-engineered masterpieces, yes they are not original, but then a Vauxhal Corsa is original.. look at a Corsa Super Modified Rally cross car, which one would you have? Its the same as standard escorts, good cars, but they can be better..better handling, faster, balistic machines.
Kieran Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 option 1 for me 105e Anglia with a big hp vauxhall xe sitting on 4 spoke revolutions
4parajon Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Option 1 for me too I've always wanted to have built a full on hard core track machine, something similar in terms of spec and looks to the pics below. I enjoy driving and I'd like to think I would enjoy track driving in something I could develop in as well.
tazrocks88 Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 i said the top 1 only because i would luv an alan mann escort but i would also luv a standard twincam or i would just have my car but it would be mint

As you're no doubt well aware by now (as you've just described what I want from the project that's heading your way) I also approve of option 1 but would need it to remain road legal and still have a few frills: Carpets and headling, seat belts as opposed to harnesses and seats that have padding instead of hard core light weight carbon fibre............oh and what ever anyone thinks about the induction noise through carbatooter trumpets, I prefer my old skool rock music so it has to have a stereo. But I guess if money truly is no object then you don't need to have a preference as you can quite easily have both.

danny69 Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I would have gone for option one but then I saw that I could bolt on some goodies up to Gp1 standard with option 2 so that is what I voted. I`d love a racer but seeing as on my small budget I have gone for the fairly standard but tweaked look I don`t see why I would do it any differently with a bigger budget. The same thing just to a better standard. I can still do a track day with it, i just won`t overtake anyone
Mk 1 Mark Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 option 1 for me 105e Anglia with a big hp vauxhall xe sitting on 4 spoke revolutions Just buy Jed`s anglia and pocket the rest of the money
Superblue76 Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Option 2 any day, I love these cars for the way they are not what they could be with a different engine , running gear etc.
NginEEr Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 option one. ive always enjoyed messing with things and making them better and have always had and wanted a far from standard car. cars are ment to be driven not kept looking brand new
BIGKEV Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I got me one of them - only the Budget version
Miller Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Id go for option 2 on a mk2 escort harrier Amen to that! Option 2 for me too. Would have to have a "bolt on" snorting crossflow or pinto though
over_head_cam Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 It's got to be a racer. You can't really hoon around in a standard car with crossply tyres, bus steering wheel, toughened glass screen, rubbish brakes etc. now can you? -edit- And who wants tropies for polishing exhaust pipes anyway
Wessie Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 i'd have a genuine RS1800 grp4 mk2, and take it rallying i'd have a wide arched thunder bastard, running a monster BD to use on track i'd have a bubbled mk1 and a flat front mk2 as road cars, both with trick suspension and brakes, stripped out with reasonably 'driveable' engines i'd have a fully spaceframed anglia, not much ford on it apart from the body one day . . . .
marky4 Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 option 1 for me polishing cars just doesn't do it for me it's the driving
105Ian Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Option 1 for me , money no object would get myself the best Mk 1 Escort shell could get my hands on and give it to you Gary to devlop into the ultimate race / track day car using the best drive train / suspension combination money could buy . Plus as money is no object would pay you double time so you could enjoy building it and not have to worry about paying your bills
mossy Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 It would have to be a road legal version of no 1.. I'd love something thats 'old' and i could hoon round a track competing against £50k supercars and yet still take it out for a blat round the local streets. Kev warnes mates superwide mk2......Lost the pics tho!
BIGKEV Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 I'm gonna build a Supervan 3 next lol out of my Transit Minibus Money no object hehe
