Hey OSF crew, my mk2 has a quick rack which is great by the way!
BUT my indicators don’t turn off after tuning a corner, is this normal? Or is there something I can do to change this? Thanks all!

Never used a quick-rack myself but maybe the little plastic bit that cancels the indicator has broken...... can't think what it's called

As they age they split very easily. Here many broke with the advent of the roundabout where the powers that be expected you to indicate when you were exiting a roundabout with your left indicator even if you were turning right at the time forcing the cam to go against itself with the net result being many spit cams. I bought a spare recently for exorbitant money with the intent of finding someone who may machine up bronze ones or at least a more malleable modern plastic.

I'm sure someone was looking into re-manufacturing them.....couple of years ago on one of the Retards Club pages.

The other thing to considder, if you have an aftermarket wheel, is that the  pin on the cam dosn't always engage with the wheel boss.

Ok maybe I’ll just to continue manually turning them off then as the price of that tiny piece of plastic is pretty steep 😂

The thing is that its a MOT failure here and yours are much stricter than ours. So you have roundabout laws that break the things then fail you for being unroadworthy cause their laws broke your car in the first place! After the second one broke I started noting what police did in roundabouts and not one of them ever did what they were supposed too so I stopped as well and thought why should I bother? Take me to court and I will easily provide footage of them doing the same!

My car is mot exempt as per the previous owner has told me? He’s owned it with no problems having no MOT

Is it registered as a Historic Vehicle for VED purposes? If so, yes it's MOT exempt......but that doesn't mean it's exempt from needing faults fixed. But I can't see you failing foul of anything for a non self cancelling indicator

I don’t know to be honest.. is there anywhere I can check if so?

I cannot see anything about being registered for ved? When I went to tax the car they told me it was exempt

looking at rules on mot for uk it just says a car over 40 years old is exempt

It is exempt MOT and VED if over 40, but that doesn't happen automatically and you need to change the taxation  class on your V5C to historic vehicle. If you were told it was exempt when you went to tax the car then that has already been done.

Even if it's registered as Historic on your V5 you will still need to apply for a Road Fund License when it's due or you will fall foul of the SORN scenario.

Go on the net and Google "Check if a vehicle is taxed".  Put your reg in there and see what comes up in the Tax and MOT box.

Below is an example of 2 cars/projects I have. Top one is Historic and the other is normal, but not intended to be on the road until next spring.

This is what you're looking for on the "Check if a vehicle is taxed" Web page.

Not a fail point here in the UK - not even tested, as long as the bulbs flash at required rate and Hazards (if fitted as not a requirement before '86) work and show a tell tail - you are golden!

As said above the Tax thing needs the Historic status shown on V5 - the PO usually take the form, do the change and submit to DVLA so you just get a new 'Historic' V5 back. The MOT thing needs to be requested every year (I believe - Form V112?) - you have to state - in writing - that vehicle is correct and not substantially altered. For the cost most forgo this and just get re-tested every year - its a safety thing + a second set of eyes looking at stuff you could overlook!

I think the V112 is only applicable if you're taxing it in person over the counter in the Post Office. When doing it online, you just need to make a declaration by ticking a box to state that it hasn't been modified when you apply for your year's free VED. Certainly I've not completed a V112 to date and I don't MOT mine every year. To date since they've been exempt, once every two to three years has been the norm for me.
