Just starting a thread to see what really rare and elusive part you have been searching for for years but unable to find at a price you can afford. For my Mk2  its been a certain bumper overrider and NOS Italian made Weber 32/36 DGAV. I just live in hope one will pop up one day. One thing I have noticed is by putting it out there here on the forum other members come across them in places that I am unable to visit. So shout out what you find most difficult to find, not the part you suddenly realised you just needed as there is a Parts wanted forum for that but the really long term searches that you feel may never come your way. if we list them all in one place they may be remembered when others stumble across them in their searches.

The one for my Twincam has been the plenum drain. At a thousand quid for a flat plastic tube that you cant even see behind the engine, I just think priorities are elsewhere for that kind of money.

I am after a time-machine, must be in good working order.

Or at least able to send yourself a message. The amount of 500 quid Mk1 Capris I would have stocked! I turned down a thousand quid Twincam complete and road registered except it had a 1600 Crossflow in it instead. At the time I thought why bother if it didnt have the engine. Now its all the shell and ID numbers.

The Twincam is the same as early Mexicos so I should be guarding that with my life then and hope it never needs replacing?

I dont even know if the part exists, but I'm after rubber plugs that sit in the rear panel under the bumper.

get hold of Neil Fletcher, he was making repro ones, dont know if he still is, youll need to take the tank out tho or that one will break if you try and fit it from the outside

Mine was a decent fuel tank for a MK1 cortina. Ended up buying a brand new repro one for £500!!!! About an hour later ( slight exaggeration) retroford, and a few other companies started selling new ones for a fraction of that.

It still hurts to talk about it but the therapy helps 😏

Hello all, looking for quite some time now.

I would like to seek out the transparent plastic cover for the fuse box in the MK 1 Escort.  I guess someone will have one for sale in very good condition, as the cover fitted to my car currently is less than good. Any ideas?

Thank you.

I must admit I have been looking for one for my Twincam for many years. I foolishly balked at some of the prices of them and now regret it.

Ok folks. Here it is. As many will know I have been searching for years for a lone good condition overrider for my Mk2 Escort to make up a set I have but one was damaged. There are several shapes and angles too them and the one specifically for my car have always been in really poor condition or simply I get outbid on them for hundreds of pounds.

Several people have messaged me when they see one on Ebay or the likes but often its for the cars with full bumpers and protector strips so wont fit the split bumpers but that effort has always been greatly appreciated that I never gave up hope.

Clearly regular sales spots we all use weren't working and too visible to others as desperate as I was. A few weeks ago a very kind member here @Miniliteman saw a set on a lesser known site and purchased them on my behalf. Not only that he negotiated such a low price im still in disbelief. He then posted them out to me hear in Australia. I was so mindful not to even let them sit on my front door step so they couldn't be nicked that I had Leon send them to my PO box so they were always secured. When I picked them up from the Post Office I was so excited that I tried opening them as soon as I got outside. But someone else wanted them secure too and used the best cloth tape you couldn't hear through! LOL So i had to wait till I got home.

So here they are ! Ta Da! and three Cheers to Leon!

They are in such good condition you just don't find them as good as that. Why hasn't anyone replicated these things yet? There is a clear market for them.

From the photo you can see its the ones on the left that I needed and the ones on the right are seen on the rear European cars like the Harrier.  Ford Australia just used the same overrider front and rear. But when these arrived the European rear ones look so much better at the back and don't stick out as much. So original or for looks? (I wasn't expecting to have to make a decision like that!)

But now that I have a set either way I choose, the issue with these things is the cheap steal screws they used to attach them. They seize inside the overrider themselves and no amount of force or WD40 is going to get some of them out. On mine they even seized after I took them off the car while simply in the shed in boxes! On one of my own I broke the head of the screw just trying to release it. So what ideas do you have for loosening them? Soaking in rust dissolver scares me about the effect on the rubber. My hand isn't steady enough to try drill them out. I heard once someone using a vinegar solution soaked for days but again I would need to be sure that didn't affect the rubber. Any ideas greatly appreciated? Im so very close now.

The moral to this story is use this thread to state what you are desperate for, someone here will always go above and beyond to help you get it!

Some say you should soak the metal bits in coke/cola. Think that will not hurt the rubbery bits.

Wasn't someone just recently talking about some form of electrolysis to remove rust?

Grp 1 cast Pinto exhaust manifold

I turned one down a few years ago as the guy wanted twice for it than the other regular one he had. Having a standard engine I didnt think it was worth it but i really regret not getting it now. This was here in Australia so even rarer still.

Has anyone ever tried a Locktite product called "Freeze and Release"? I imagine you would have to be careful not to get it on the rubber part of the Overrider?

For parts that are rusty and stuck where I cannot use a inductive heater (mate has one that I can borrow) I use deblockice from Innotec. Must be similar to the Loctite product. You must remove as much rust as possible then spray it on the parts until it freezes over. Leave it for a while then spray it again. Leave it be (it has MoS2 oil it that penetrates) then remove the rusty part should be more easy. Does work, just don't expect miracles. Oh and it doesn't affect the rubbey bits !
