Thanks so much for posting. While they are not quite the same as Rally Pack ones they are a perfect replacement for the rear and look better than the originals which stick out too much at the rear anyways. With the help of @Miniliteman I recently acquired a second hand set but have yet to find a safe way to get the rusted in bolts off having tried every lubricant and rust dissolver I can get my hands on. I would love these new ones but the current bidding is up to 300 pounds, I dont think I can afford them! Still 8 hours to go I wonder what the frenzy end bidding will take them too?!

No worries mate, I know there are a few types and I was out at the time, so just popped them here in case they were the holy grail of overriders!

Guesses on finishing bid?

I wouldnt have dared guess but 370 pounds was the final bid. There is clearly a desperation out there for these with people prepared to pay that sort of money. Why someone hasnt replicated them is beyond me, there is an untapped market out there.

The world has gone mad hasn't it.

I am a big believer in originality but do the anoraks really check out your wheel nuts too? If you look at the images the anodizing on them is pretty poor anyways.

Being pedantic - you can't anodise steel! So they are likely just hard enamelled (to stand up to the punishment) which will crack eventually and flake off!

I think the world went mad about 20-25 years ago when the classic car world discovered the internet and saw that money could be made by selling scrap, whereas before everything needed to be sourced from scrap yards, car boot sales and autojumbles, when you haggled over price - now its stupidly highest bidder wins!

Ahhh so you think they are just enameled then? I have often seen anodized wheel nuts in surface hardened steel for sale though?

Maybe you should give them to your friend, the one with the big hammer who rolled the arches of your car. And turn away while he loosens them bolts. 😉

Anodising is a dieing process suited to aluminium as it's quite a porous metal - steel is virtually non porous. I'd suggest the steel ones could be chemically blackened like done with machine tools, deffo not anodised though.

Unfortunately I haven't seen that friend in many years as his new wife back then looked upon his cars as rival mistresses and I was given a subtle hint to stay away as my car presence may have reminded or encouraged him of things he was now forbidden to have.

I did take one of my split overriders to an engineer to see how he would tackle the problem explaining how rare and and fragile these things were. He said the only way would be to drill them out. Fair enough lets see if it can be done. He clamped the test one in a vice without any cloth or protection to the surface which naturally marked it so I knew he wasnt the man for the job.

agree with Katana, you cant annodise steel, but zinc plating is available in a black finish

That's sounds exactly like what they would be doing then. I would say they are using the term "anodize" as a generic coloured plating technique

They must be very special, they started the auction at £85 🤪

Its a bidding war. There are two or more desperate people for these it seems with 33 bids so far. When its over I will post a screen shot on the ridiculous prices thread.

Guess one bidder hasn't got the permission of their financial advisor (the wife) as several bids are withdrawn; highest bid now is GBP 400 .
