Retromotorsport Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 you cant suddenly start bleating at the lights that someone has taken their back seat out... This is drag racing not a single make formula I'M SAYING that i'll be as fast as a normal escort race car with linked rear suspension , ballasted to the same weight as mine with 175mm wide street tyres on it . So you bring them and i'll show you , we'll do a lap time around the test track then a quarter mile sprint You can in Gazicstan
105Speed Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Perhaps you're right Gary... Time to give it a rest... Mk1Gaz and his mobile goal posts will ensure that in Gazicstan at least.. Pinto is King...
Dalek Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Pinto is King... Yeah it wins the who ate all the pies award for the heaviest engine

Wessie Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 im not a big fan of the zetec personally, but its not my car - its yours ! just do whatever you want/can afford
Twinkle Posted March 19, 2007 Author Report Posted March 19, 2007 it just happens to be for sale with the car, st170 bottom end with a silver top, i must admit the engine wouldnt be one i would of converted myself but its included in the deal
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Perhaps this would make for an excellent feature in Retro Ford magazine.. A proper Old School vs New School thrash at Brunters. Gaz find 10 Pinto Luvvas and the rest of us 16v boys will find some New School and settle it there and then, once and for all. 0-60, 1/4 mile, 0-100 and top speed But Specs have to be evenly matched to prove your theories. So a 180bhp Zetec against a 180bhp Pintosaurus etc etc sounds good but the pintos have been kicking the new engines arses every year anyway . Just look at all the mag thrash days , run what you brung race days , osfdrc , etc etc . A 180 bhp pinto WILL piss all over a 180 bhp zetec no sweat . My mates 180 bhp Harris pinto goes 13.8 secs @ 97 mph on 175 mm wide street tyres with NO weight saving at all so full trim , steel panels , glass windows , etc . So you get a 180 bhp zetec and go beat it then .
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 now im gonna open up another debate as the car im lookin at has a zetec to go in it opinions please gents waste of money and time , i've NEVER seen a fast one yet and they've been out 15 years !!!!!!
Mk 1 Mark Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 it just happens to be for sale with the car, st170 bottom end with a silver top, i must admit the engine wouldnt be one i would of converted myself but its included in the deal Green mk2 me thinks Go for it twink

Retromotorsport Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 that will be Gaz talking 1/4s again
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 that will be Gaz talking 1/4s again Taking actual real performance you mean instead of driving around tracks thinking a cars fast Well we'll see if any zetecs can beat the pintos this year then , i doubt it though as even a full monty one will be in trouble from the 1970's power plant using only 1 cam and 8 valves .
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Well it just cracks me up when all the traders selling the modern stuff harp on about the pintos being rubbish . They must be flipping blind as well as stupid to have not noticed all the proper fast ones out there kicking arse every meet . I'm not imaging it then am i ? You know , the 2 x mk1 escorts running 11's without gas , turbos , 2 foot wide tubbed rear ends , space frames , ladder bars , etc , etc .

105Speed Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 My mates 180 bhp Harris pinto goes 13.8 secs @ 97 mph on 175 mm wide street tyres with NO weight saving at all so full trim , steel panels , glass windows , etc . So you get a 180 bhp zetec and go beat it then . Ok mate... I'll see him at the lights... because I have a 180bhp Zetec in my Anglia. And its fully trimmed and its got glass all round and a steel boot and bonnet and doors and the tyres are filled with air not helium.... But if I beat his time then you will be whining about my 185mm tyres and my diff and my gearbox and then oh well... you've got all that Milton suspension on your car.... blah blah blah blah blah.

You know , the 2 x mk1 escorts running 11's without gas , turbos , 2 foot wide tubbed rear ends , space frames , ladder bars , etc , etc . Who are these Traders Gaz... ??? the only two people on this thread with businesses are myself and retro-Gary... Neither of us sell Zetec or Duratec conversions... we have no financial gain from this advice and are only in a position to give the advice because this is what we do for a living. I do know my Anglias and I know what works well in them and what doesnt... and I put my OWN money, not my businesses money, into my Anglia and went for the Zetec. In this respect I am the same as any other enthusiast on this forum, I've weighed up the options and bought what I feel is the best for me... and I dont regret it one bit. And like I said earlier I've had Cossies for the last 7 years and love them to bits... but didnt want one in my Anglia.

You know , the 2 x mk1 escorts running 11's without gas , turbos , 2 foot wide tubbed rear ends , space frames , ladder bars , etc , etc . This is the thing Gaz .. the only one doing any slating of any engine here is you..yes you .. Others just state facts as you do sometime,,, you shoot yourself in the head let alone in the foot by saying the 1/4 mile is a true measure of perfomance and then go and say that the pintos run 11's against cars with more gip and more power... so how is the 1/4 a accurate measure . What the 1/4 shows isthe difference between a good set up and a bad one .. someone with huge grip and power should beat the car with less grip and less power, but as we have seen ... lots of engines that have the same power run different times ... and here i am talking about pintos. They are probably the most common engine to be thrown down the strip and the times range all over the place. What the people on here are doing is arguing the points for the other engines after you slate them.. read your first answer on here .... Bollox to the turbos , they sound shit and don't go any faster than the atmo cossies except on top speed runs on 4 mile long airstrips . There's 100's of turbo cossie mk1/2 escorts and only about 5 quick ones that don't have to cheat with nos !!!!!!!! there 100's of pintos out there ... and not all of them are under 14seconds .. both sides of the coin has writing on it , and thats what this is about.. both sides. The other thing to consider and this is why i keep talking about you and your fixation on the 1/4's is that the vast majority of people out there will spend maybe 3 miles a year on the 1/4 mile and 3000 miles on the road .. and on the road drivability makes a good car, the torque of a good pinto makes a nice car, but on the same hand the modern engines prouduce nice drives too.. and generally cost less bhp for bhp than the pinto. But you'll argue against all that and say i'm in it for the money.. but it costs the same to do chassis mounts or wcxm mounts for a pinto, a zetec , a duratec, or an XE .. the mounts are availible, of the shelf. And the bulkheads.. with a pinto i move the bulkhead back, as generally they are hiding rot, and make clutch changes easy .. why restore on a modified car when you can improve. It dosnt bother me what engine the customer wants to use .. its their choice.. i'll just do the best i can for them within their budgets. But i wont say dont use the pinto or yb as they are dated, old fashioned or not the "buzz" engine.. its their choice.
Admin Vista Posted March 20, 2007 Admin Report Posted March 20, 2007 i'll just do the best i can for them within their budgets. But i wont say dont use the pinto or yb as they are dated, old fashioned or not the "buzz" engine.. its their choice. Changing tack completely, I have my pinto back now and even before it's been set up on the road I can tell it's going to be very quick..... But how can I make the car feel less light and twitchy at speed, I can feel it's got loads more to give, but anything above 85 or 90 and it all gets a bit nerve wracking....... Any tips?
