  3. So, popped along to a Saturday morning breakfast meet being put on by the West Sussex RS Owners club at Fuel Coffee House in Henfield. Only two classics, mine and a yellow MK2 RS2000 and a lot of newer stuff. Nice morning out and the people were all nice as well. Plus, unexpectedly, I won car of the month! Bonus!

  7. Long time member of the forum as I had wanted a Capri for the longest time. I had a few 1965 Mustangs in school and now are silly prices. I wanted a Capri for the longest time, but in 2024 I found a 1973 MK1 Capri then traded a Westfield Lotus 7 replica for a MK1 Escort estate. Since Escorts didn't come to the US till 1984 I never expected to own a MK1 Escort let a lone a fantastic estate. Through school until I could get my driving license I wanted an Anglia. There was a pair of 105e parked in a guy's side yard. I planned to try to buy one once I passed my driving test. I got to his house a week after I had my license and found that he sold the cars the week before! Forward to present day I now have a MK1 Escort estate and just procured a fantastic 1966 Anglia Deluxe project that has been off the road since 1972. The 1970 Escort was built in Genk, Belgium and sold new in Finland. It was brought into the US by the second owner and since passed through 4 other US owners till I got it. Original 1300 motor will be swapped for a 2.0 Pinto motor. I added four pot HiSpec calipers, Minilites and decals, otherwise it is stock. The '66 Anglia was built at Halewood in October of '66 with a 1200. I have a 1600GT motor I will put in it and contemplating Escort front suspension on it. I will lower it 2" and plan on VW Denim blue for the body and Fiat Celeste blue for the roof.

  10. Went to pendine sands for the vhra racing great weekend spent all day Saturday in the pub as it was pouring down haha! Slight hiccup on the way down when brother got a puncture though! Kwik fit tried to tell us cars haven't used inner tubes in 20 odd years... Luckily some other hot rod good Samaritans came to the rescue with a new tube and a independent garage was more than happy to fit the tube for a tenner. Good job I was there as pit crew, it's amazing how much you can fit in a Cortina boot!

  11. True @Ray. Both you and @stephens_xpack along with many others have put in an awful lot of work. I joined the clan 2 years ago and can vouch for Ray's comments about how much work it is starting in June. This year the organisers made it harder, even stopping RetroFord Magazine from promoting the show with us. But you can't keep a good gang down 👍. We need your support. As Kellye said its a great day out for the money. I heat you say its expensive but I bet you don't think twice about blowing £50 to £100 on a Saturday night. So come on, stop whingeing and support us this year. Yes we enjoy it but it does cost us time and money. We have new cars on stand this year with a couple of changes now. Vista Estate is being replaced with Mk1 Cortina 1500GT and newbie Rog is bringing his Mk2 RS2000. These will be alongside Malcolm Wilsons first rally car (owned by Neil), a stunning Alan Mann Replica (owned by Ian) and a fantastic Mk3 Cortina (owned by Paul). Remember the discount code is CCCNOV5846! Get your wallets out you miserable buggers! 🤣

  15. Hi all, Once again OSF has been asked to have a show stand at the NEC this November. This will be our 16th time. I, along with @Ray and @stephens_xpack will be doing all the organisation this year as per last years successful anniversary show. (Take a look at the NEC2024 posts). This post is a call out to members who would like to show there car. We are looking for a good spread of cars and newbies too. To be eligible you will need to be a paid member of OSF for insurance purposes. Basic details first, the show runs from the 7th to the 9th of November, the set up day is Thursday 6th November. I will be up there on the 6th, as usual, but we can drop stuff and cars off on the afternoon of the 5th as well. Once your car is in the hall on either the 5th or the 6th, then you won't be allowed to take it out until the evening of the 9th when the NEC have let all the public traffic clear the roads, access for trailers is then via a north car park that you have to queue at, I recommend going up on Wednesday the 5th of you are planning to trailer your car as the outside traffic trying to get in can be a nightmare, but that's just my preference, and I don't have working commitments, but from where you are that may also mean extra hotel accommodation. There is provision for you to park a trailer in a north car park for the show duration, but if you do, make sure you have good security measures, on the wednesday afternoon, trailering the car into the hall shouldnt be an issue, but it will be on the thursday, and I'll give better instructions for what to do rather than take the trailer into the hall. Unfortunately all costs involved with you doing the show are your responsibility, as we are a non funded club, depending on how you go about that is up to you and will be reflected in your costs, Hotels, especially close ones are very expensive and fill quick, some people use Air BNB and get some good deals, train station is on site as well. I along with @Ray usually set up a WhatsApp group to fill all exhibitors in with the information required as we go, so that'll need a WhatsApp no if you use it. Your car does not have to be concourse to exhibit. We look to reflect the spirit of OSF. In the last few years, people seem to have dumped and run, which has left just a few to set up and run the stands, so this year we are insisting on set up help, and a system where there's fair share of the time on the stand allowing the others a break during the show - please. On set up day, you're required to wear steel toe caps and hi vis vest, this is the same on Sunday breakdown as well, however I've never seen the shoes enforced, you will be given entry instructions closer the time, No children or young adults under 16 are allowed on the premises during set up or breakdown. We have some spare hi vis if you need one. On the 3 show days, you will have free entry to the show via a wrist band, one colour for each day, these will be issued on the Thursday set up day, where I have to go and collect them from the office. The std allocation is 2 bands per show car, ie a max of 2 people free per car per day, however I do pool the bands as some only need the one, others may want an additional, and if we can be fair its better, but extra free tickets are limited, and the NEC want full entry fee for more, however we can earn more if we sell enough tickets via our special purchase code (so tell your friends!😊). Ray and I will run a spread keeping an eye on what everyone wants, and hopefully no one gets disappointed, there are also a small limited amount of free parking tickets for the clubs on the show days, I will explain that one later. Your car is secure in the NEc with overnight security too. We have a barrier system to prevent people going round cars uninvited. Any questions please ask. I do need to know fairly soon, and if you say yes, I do need you to keep that commitment, because it can be very hard to replace someone near the time of the show, and also I have to declare how many cars within the next month or so, thats one of the ways they sort part of the ticket allocation. If you've not exhibited at the show before, its a fantastic experience, and once again Retro Ford magazine will follow our journey. We had anazing coverage in 2024. Thank you RetroFord Magazine 👏 We have space for up to 5 cars in Hall 8 next to the 1300E Owners Club along one wall. A great spot. 👍 I will be taking Vista Estate and we have provisional mk1 fiesta supersport. So that means 3 spots are free for now. So please get in touch with me ASAP by private message. There is no guarantee we will have an opportunity next year so don't put it off. Yes it's quite a commitment but life is too 🤣. I look forward to hearing from you. YKT🤟

  16. hi, i also will be there, with my grey mk2 escort van, i will be one of the single showers, it's not the same as the old show, but if the hundred cars from the old show would come, it would be the same, i do get it, that it's futher away for some, i have to drive 300 km from holland, take a risk of drowning in a tunnel, then drive up to the show, and i am still not complaning, cheers marcel

  19. Love the long roof! My first car was an Anglia 1200 Super, it had so much filler in it, if i had hit someone the'd have died of asbestosis. It had a partial wooden floor too, but at 16 getting ready for my 17th birthday I didn't care.

  21. I find it quite sad now that the likes of DTM used to be Ford's, Audi's, Merc's, BMW,s, Alfa's, the sort of everyday cars you'd see on the roads but now they have changed them to Astons, Porsche, Ferrari's so its just become another form of GT racing in cars most people cant afford

  23. I was brought up on foot and a half lengths of railway sleeper stacked under the chassis rails, I have a variety of axle stands but always feel safer using big lumps of timber supporting the car when the stands are at their height limit, and you can use them on gravel. If there's a lot of pulling and pushing going on, and I'm stuck for space, I'll use stands but put some timber elsewhere under the car so I can't get trapped it the stands rock away. Car crush is not a pleasant way to expire, but it makes it easier to be delivered to the mortuary as you can be slipped under the door..............

  24. I have too many scrapyard adventure stories to tell but not the time although one still gives me a constant reminder, I was climbing a stack of cars that were in rows 4 high using the old fashioned style door handles for footings, it was raining and my shoes were caked in the obligatory water/soil/oil mixture, I got to the top car gripping the door handle with my right hand when both feet slipped leaving me hanging by my right arm, I actually heard my shoulder pop out and had to lower myself down carefully left handed until I reached terra firma, a quick roll of arm saw the shoulder ‘clunk’ back in but it has been an aching nuisance ever since! Yes, items finding their way out of the scrapyard mysteriously without payment was a given! I’d had a run in with the bloke that ran the establishment, so was pretty cheeses off but my revenge was to source an identical front light for my Mk1 Mexico that was cracked from a DAF Daffodil 55, fitted down the front of my strides and a bit of breathing in saw me walk out and take my revenge! Happy days 😁

  25. Ah man, yes the good old days of risking life to take MK2 Escort bonnets off three cars high in the rain and (cough) finding bits in your tool box at home that you "forgot" to pay for.😁 Atkinson's in Wimbledon, Bridges in Crawley and some other ones in Mitcham who's names I cant remember. I can smell them now......

  26. A guy who I went to school with bought a new Renault 4 after he got an inheretance from his gran. It had those folding "camping" chairs ... 2 years on and when he demonstrated how easy the seats could be taken out to a teacher he not only removed the passenger-seat but also a part of the floor, rotten away in 2 years 😮

  28. Loved going to scrapyards in the 80s and 90s, there were 7 or 8 in Peterborough full of 60s and 70s cars. Used to climb in and out of them as a kid, all models with their own history. I got my first mk2 Escort on the road in 1993 when i was 17 and remember a gold 1300E 2 door mk1 just being taken to a scrappy on a Friday afternoon (i was there getting something with work). I went there first thing the next morning (12pm as a 17 year old) and there were about 8 blokes stripping it. 6 pod dash, interior, lights all sorts. Nothing like that these days, although modern cars dont interest me in the slightest.

  34. So I had a bit of luck earlier this week. A contact of mine in my industry had had someone drop out of an event he'd organised with a local car dealer, he called me up late last week anf asked me if I wanted to come instead for a few hours out behind the wheel on Monday.......... I had to think hard about it 🤔 It was a really tough call but I let him twist my arm. House, Alfa and kids will be going on the market next week. You can live in a car right?

  36. Dear Sirs and... probably mostly Sirs 😁of oldskool ford. I'm Dennis, an 40y old german and owner of a 1999 Caterham R400 (so I do know british humour in building cars 😉) and a 1991 E30 335i swap. After finishing my E30 M30 project I did hope to be done with wrenching at least for a while. Which I wasn't... Thanks to my father in law my wife "inherited" a 1969 Escort 1.3 Automatic in decent condition and I got the order to build her something nice. So the commander in chief decided that she wants a narrow 1.6 manual running in 13x7 minilites. Well thus began another journey to mount pain, dirt and rust. I got a heap of questions and will be challenging your patience very soon 🙈. Anyway cheers and have an awesome sunday, Dennis

  46. Hi Everyone. I am karlsupersport .im from the North East of England. I am a New member and i I'm pleased to be here to read your stories and share topics after all we all love old school fords and it's nice to see the past come alive again so memories live on for generations to come .I am a total novice but always loved the cars I grew up with and what my father owned some good ,some not so ,I decided at long last to invest in a classic car and start living the dream .I have a 1981 Mk1 fiesta supersport in black .it is work in progress and I am hoping to get it all finished by the end of summer this year .As you we all know nothing is plain sailing with classic cars and patience is a vertu. . I still have overiders to fit and the original supersport wheels from the car I have got will go back on when the Car is finished just put deep dish alloys on while moving it about .I am looking forward to bringing it to a show and any help and advice from you guys will be greatly appreciated. It is a one owner supersport, And the first owner did not buy the executive pack or climate pack so its a totally plain standard supersport. Thank you all of taking the time to read my post Karlsupersport.
