I heard that the Capri estate was a photo shop job as there are no signs of tops of seats.

Well that just crushed that illusion! I really liked that car. To think then that the ute is actually real while the estate isn't. There is something truly wrong with the world.

Surely in the wrong catagory.........Distastefully modified ?????

Yes unfortunately some of the cars appearing on this thread will belong over there. I think the Escort hatch is already there. It is unique though.

Back in the late 70's I remember talking to a Regional Crime Squad cop who was using a 4dr 1600Gl badged Mk2 Escort which was apparently an RS2000 4dr, they also had Modena Green 3litre Consul GT which had Capri 3.1 RS drive train. Lots of weird shit went through Police forces as development vehicles, like the Cosworth 2.9 Granadas, before they became open to sale. We had Mk2 Granada 2.8i's with taxi interiors and sports suspension, and then there was the Flying Pig MK4 Zephyrs with Ferguson 4x4 from the 60's, Lancs Police still had one on their skid pan in the late 70's for the instructors to rip off rookies for beer vouchers.....

Frua? Cirrus?

Yes the Frua! I remember seeing this Mk1 Mexico based prototype in one of my Escort history books. It used the 6 dial Instruments and dash pad and vents of the Mexico. It almost went into production with a batch of 500 originally planned.

There was also another Prototype called the Frua Monty Carlo GT based on a 1300GT Mk1 Escort except it has its own unique dash and instruments. I can only assumed it was the first prototype and then abandoned for the Mexico based one with more power and greater parts sharing of the Mexico version. It does appear to have different bonnet humps.

Never seen one of those before!! ....looking round it, it looks like something Relient would produce using parts from quite a few suppliers, door handles BL rear lights and front indicators Vauxhall no dobt all the running gear Ford. Also has a distinct Citreon look to some parts.

I did notice the British Leyland door handles as well.

Not content with final Mk1 Fiesta design, Ford continued to dabble with further prototypes based on the Mk1 platform each year after its introduction.

1976 saw the Corrida, (Spanish for Bullfight) by Ghia

Has anyone else had one of what I had in 19 83 it was a Ford Escort Mark 2 1300 Ghia 2 door .mine was a V reg and I saw one other which was a r reg  . Mine used to belong to my old physics teacher who actually spent an entire lesson teaching us about kinetic energy potential energy while standing in the car park next to his new white escort !

I have not been looking for that car and never seen it again my brother had it and blew the engine up .

the interior was tailor-made and apparently there was 200 made but I've never been able to verify this all I know is it was very hard to find the rear quarter trim which ran from the back of the door to the rear by the boot as ghia trims did

It had a beige interior

Do any survive?

To me Mk2 Ghia 2 doors are incredibly rare. I have never seen one in real life. Ford Australia only made 4 door Ghias.
