Leaving OSF!

katana

Recommended Posts

Having been around the OSF world for over a decade, i've engaged with many digital 'friends' on the site, sharing advise, having a craic and buying / selling parts during the ownership of my car. That has now been sold and the new owner has soured my continued presence here with his 'build' thread.

I will only say that this car was built for ME - no one else. It was built in a leaky, decrepit, rented garage with no light or power, so only work outside was possible. I'm physically disabled, only having 20% use of one arm & hand so major 'heavy' work is somewhat challenging - try fitting a gearbox lying on your back and only using one arm! As I said, everything I did on this car was done to get it on the road for my use only - I find cable ties restraining cables in an engine bay strangely acceptable - obviously not so for others. I won't further justify why I did anything on this car as it would be pointless!

I have enjoyed my time here and I may pop in from time to time but don't wish to be around some people who like making fun at the expense of others. I wish Scott and some of the other members well, a Happy New Year and continued 'Clear Roads' with your own Old Fords!

Regards, TTFN.

@katanaAs some one who is  less able, having a left side that is wilful and can withdraw it's labour at the most inconvenient of times, and a knackered back, this breaks my heart. I know the effort and sheer frustration of what you suffer when doing 'simple' jobs. Don't leave on bad terms. hold your head high and think, I did it, I did it my way, and it worked for me, I built a usable car not a trailer queen. Good luck in the future and maybe one day you will return with another blue oval car.

Thanks for your input over the last decade Ian.

I will keep your account active in case you ever come back to the world of Classic Fords and hope you don't go away judging us all based on the comments / critique of a single member.

As above, don't be a stranger. You've been in here longer than me, and you seem to know your way around these Escorts.

Won't be the same in here without your helpful, knowledgeable and honest input on these build threads.

I might not always agree with you....but we're all allowed an opinion. And that's what you get on a forum...opinions.

Sounds like I missed something here but reading between the lines I think I get the gist.

Mate, you have always been a good active member of the forum, helped me out many times.

I can totally understand your frustration, picking holes in someones car is worse than insulting your kids. I have had it myself at car shows, what the people that critisize dont appreciate is the blood sweat and tears gone into a project.

I am fortunate enough to have some very good classics, I openly admit I throw money at things to get what I want. That doesnt mean I dont appreciate other peoples efforts though.

I attended a car show with a very prominent figure in Classic car circles recently. His collection is one of the best in the country, its next level up. Anyway, my favourite car at the show amoungst the Bentlys and Farraris was a VW Golf, the owner was 19 years old and couldnt even afford to insure  it, his Grandad drove it to the show.! The car wasnt the best there, in fact it was the worst by far. The point is it was HIS car and it was obviouse he loved it..warts and all. I spoke to him for over an hour I ended up sending him some bits I had kicking around from my VW days.  He was a great lad and like us a car nut.!

The point is, its not about the car its about what the car means to the owner.

Sometimes we all can be a bit critical, its easy done. I have been guilty myself Im sure.

Looking at your previous posts its obvious your a car nut too, we all are on here..we live and breath it. Its hardly supprising we get a bit ' iffy ' when someone doesnt like what you have done.

Put it down to experience.

Your a FORD fan and once its in your system it wont go away. I for one need all the advice I can get and hope you will continue to be an active member.

I am lucky in some respects in that the V8 Muscle car / Mazda Rotary culture here often means I go to these shows as a loner with the odd other Escort popping up from time to time. All the Capris and Cortinas that show up are V8 conversions and when passers by see only 4 spar plugs and no chrome blowers poking through the bonnet or turbo chargers they generally pass by without a word. Not even the judges that hand out awards even stop and take a peek. Some shows I have no one approach or speak to me all night I just sit there on a collapsible chair I keep in the boot. The only re-occurring question I have ever been asked is "Is that an RS2000?" Sometimes I get a laugh when I hear some younger JDM enthusiast say hey look you can see the alternator and water pump in that! So I rarely get insulted purely cause I am the closest thing to the OSF anorak and even then I don't say anything to others other than "looks good" or "great car mate". But a recent encounter I did actually get annoyed was only a just few weeks ago when some guy came up to me and said nice car but why didn't I sell it and buy the car I really wanted or couldn't I afford one? (His exact words)  I bit my tongue and was both puzzled and curious what he was referring too.? He proclaimed an RS2000 of course! Grrrrrrr.

We don't have that problem here, quite the opposite although you do get the odd person commenting on size of a bolt not being as per original Ford. I just smile.

I did have two guys at a show last year that said my estate must be a cut and shut as Ford never made a two door estate ever! When I pointed out a copy of  Ford sales brochure to help them out, one said it was photoshopped. 🤣 They walk amongst us!

The latest thing for us a shows is the mazda or BMW based pretend Ferrari or Aston Martin.

They took awards and never owned up to it being a kit car. 🤔.

Judges were clearly blind, with one saying it was the best survivor car he'd seen. The chairman of our club said yes it had survived well for a 2 year old car 🤣

Life and laughs may we continue to have plenty of both.

Special bleeders I think you meant. And yes @colr6 you should be ashamed of those door cards 🤣

Talk about letting the side down. What do you think @Ray 🤔

Remember those that can-do those that can't are a bloody pain in the arsenal.

Life and laughs bring it on 👍
