Think it looks ok in Glacier to be honest, better than the 'Performance ish' blue personally

But as said black is a safe option, I'd try Glacier first as once all the hoses and other bits are in there is always a load of black and it might brighten it up a bit

Interesting! not seen them that colour before, that could be a winner, but you'll have to see, then perhaps black??

ohhh decisions decisions, my rocker cover changed a few times over the years, alloy, chrome, black, blue, alloy again 🤣

As the @The Transplanter says you can go overboard with colour co-ordinating under the bonnet, it sometimes works with modern all plastic drifter machines but with classics you have to be a bit more subtle with a sprinkling hint to the cars paint colour used sparingly.

I like the the contrast the darker Olympic Blue (Or Ford Performance Blue) provides but its also give the engine that original Ford Essex V6 look as well. But adding hoses as well will just be a bit much I think so I would go with traditional matt black hoses not shiny silicone ones. (They have classic range of silicone hoses that look like rubber of course)

Did they do a blue Essex, I thought they were all black like the crossflows?

Its a lovely looking car, so whatever you decide to do wont spoil it and like you said previously. they are just bolt-on bits that can be easily changed if yo change your mind.

Yep they did but based on your post it may have been an Australian thing then as ours were usually blue in Capris although some I saw were black too, we also had blue crossflows too so even more so suggests it was a local thing. Being fully imported I thought they came from the UK that colour! Did you guys have black and blue Pinto engines too? Ours changed from Blue to Black after a certain year.

We had Black and Blue pinto covers, but not sure when the change was, or even if they ran together.

I seem to remember that they were blue when introduced and changed to black later in production.

The colour change was in March 77 on the Pinto's

I was a Ford mechanic back in the early 80s and only remember the Pintos being available in blue. American Ford engines were the same blue from 65 to about the same time as our pinto's, so maybe it was the American influence!?

I could be wrong but I cant recall seeing any blue Essex, Kent or Valencia engines. Even the early Colognes were black and went grey

Yeah, I think it must have been an Oz or non UK market thing.

That timeline follows, the change to Black in our Pintos was the start of 1979 as I have noted that the evolution of things takes about a year to 18 months till we see them appear on Australian showrooms. Its about long hall sea cargo shipping and using up old stock seems to be behind the slower release of upgrades.

The American influence stands to reason as Ford Australia were very American Muscle car based, and Escorts and Cortinas were just used as smaller sized market fillers but their main focus was all about big Falcons back then. They had they own engine assembly plant for American V8s and straight sixes so im sure that Blue was used on everything that went under a Ford bonnet.
